Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

What did you set it to?
The monitor? 240Hz 10-bit as always, this is the first game I have played where VRR flicker is actually very annoying, as said the entire game is dark so you see it every time you walk indoors anywhere in the whole game.

If I turn off Gsync in NV control panel or NVApp then it's completely fixed as expected. The problem is that the mouse cursor when VRR flicker is happening also slightly judders as the GPu and display are trying to sync up but because of VRR flicker, it has this trait.

GSYNC VRR enabled:

GSYNC VRR disabled:

The tradeoff here I guess is that I could set NV driver VSYNC mode to Fast and leave GSYNC off so it's always at 240Hz. A 4090 would work well with that config as rarely will framerate be an issue anyway so I think I will use that combo for now and see how things go and if multiple games work well with it, then to hell with VRR, I'll stick with fixed refresh rate from there onwards.

I have not tried a lower refresh rate yet with GSYNC enabled though. Maybe I should?

Edit*
tried 120Hz VRR, still the same VRR flicker. Ah well, fixed refresh it is.

From the games I play so far noticed it in Mortal Kombat 1 in the menu as I recall. It is annoying that they did not or could not get it to the level of the 34" Alienware before releasing it.

Furry muff!! I'm at 138 though, helps a tad ;)

I would not bother upgrading in your shoes tbh. That monitor will be fine for a few years yet imo.

The other problem is setting to 120Hz I can 100% see and feel the motion loss vs 240Hz even on desktop just using the mouse cursor or dragging windows around. 120Hz is a literal downgrade by all accounts after being on 240Hz all this time!

Could you not set it just in the game menu or make a profile in nv app/control panel to have it at 120hz for just that one game?

Yes but would have to be running the game in exclusive fullscreen mode which has the black screen delay as refresh rates switch over when alt-tabbing and stuff. I paid for all this hardware to be able to minimise a game and browse if needed so i damn well will do that without the black screen delay annoyance!

Hey mrk now can you see why 144hz OLED was still disappointing to me after years of 0 input lag and motion on my good old fw900. Not that I think the crt is overall better than my oleds, just in this aspect it was as you describe, a downgrade.

I really want to try one of the 480hz OLED screens, but will wait on the next round.

YOU DARE, WINDOWS....

AW2725DF could you recommend me guys some settings for this monitor, pls?

Do I need switch on freesync/gysync in the monitor menu?
Everyone is going to have their own preferred settings but I use the 'warm' preset mode as I found that worked best for me.

Brightness at 85% (this is max I use, I tend to lower it in the evenings to around 75% if it's particularly blinding), contrast at 79%, sharpness at 50% and HDR is display HDR True Black. I'm not sure there's a setting in the menu to enable on freesync/gysnc, it's all handled in Adrenalin/NVC.

Have you installed the alienware software? It's cack so remove it if so as it will interfere and mess about with everything. Game enhance mode otherwise is either on or off depending on the OSD.
