err was I the only one excited to see S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 admittedly that could mean anything at this stage with GSC's fruitful past but clearly something is happening with enough certainty for Microsoft to allow themselves to be attached to it.

Nope. Stalker 2 was a mega-ton for the hardcore gamers that know about the previous ones, but ultimately they were niche games. I'd wager it's been much more popular in Europe than in the US so there's going to be fewer reactions to it just because people don't know about it in the first place. I think them being gamepass-exclusive is a good sign, because this way they can just build the game they want and not be as concerned with moving copies. It lends itself way better to the sort of experience it is, high engagement, lots of hours, modding etc. which also gels nicely with gamepass wanting you to stay subscribed.

I really suggest watching this video... And I say that as someone who is a bit sceptical of DLSS overall. You can skip to around 15 mins to get to the bulk of the DLSS vs native vs fidelity FX stuff.

See below :) just replying to both of you at once.

Just watched the section from 15 mins and it just seems like an AA comparison. Native was always with TAA and the issues he points to seem to me to be issues with TAA. If the argument is that DLSS is a new form AA then thats a different discussion to be had. Why did he never do a comparison to straight 4K without TAA? It seems odd to not do that.
It does make me wonder when the image is downscaled and given to the tensor cores, does that image have TAA applied to? How would that affect the output?

Why was contrast adaptive sharpening run at lower than 4k res in his test (from my understanding of his statement just before he begins to discuss CAS)? CAS is supposed to fix the issues of TAA according to the AMD website so it would have been interesting to see it run at native 4K.

DLSS didn't get off to the best of starts. So, it was right to be sceptical of the claims when DLSS 2.0 came out. But, as you can see, it's a much better technology now.

In the video that Zeeflyboy links to, he does do a comparison of Native vs 4K with TAA vs 4K with FXAA. He concludes that 4K with TAA is the best of the three.

DLSS is a form of AA. It's a method of getting rid of the jaggies without the problems that TAA and FXAA have. It does this while increasing the performance.

The reason he runs at a lower resolution for his FidelityFX test is that it's also an upscaling technique.

Stalker, Call of Pripyat is one of my favourite games ever!! So yeah, I am very excited about this. Rumour are that it might be just a graphical refresh and not a whole new game. That would be disappointing. I don't think improved graphics will do anything for the current games.
I love the STALKER games as well, and to have merely a graphical refresh would be tremendously disappointing. That said, I'm not sure what else they might do with the world, as we've already been to the reactor core, Pripyat, had the military involved, etc.

Probably it will get dumbed down, especially since the new one is going to be on consoles, and will need to take controllers into account. Look at the Mafia 2 remake,ie,it looks like its turned into a cover shooter.

Fanboys begrudgingly seeing the light :D
Lol :D

I am still kicking myself as I was very close to picking up some when they were under $2. Would have paid off my mortgage if I had. Oh well, maybe some other things I picked up will pay it off early instead :)

Intels advisory the other day that they have yet to find there ass with both hands has meant a big drop in share price for them and AMDs rocketing because they have pretty much got the market nailed down after zen3 arrives - heck most of the nails are already in already.

As others said the jump today chiefly seems to be off the back of INTC screwing the pooch in the report last night. They are down around 16% today!

Here's the thing. Plenty of people on here would argue that "if AMD actually had a product that could compete... then X would not charge so much". Well lets see who puts their money where their mouth is, people want it but then when its in their face, do they actually follow it up??

Well I think we’ve already seen how intel has had to cut prices of many of their new products higher up the stack in the face of the revived AMD lineups... they don’t cut prices in existing products, but when they launch what is ultimately a refresh at significantly lower prices I think that counts in all but name.

Generally in mainstream desktop they were managing to hold on to their pricing structure since they can still sell everything they make (supply issues probably help), probably in no small part due to still technically holding the gaming crown. We will see how that holds up when Zen3 comes out, if rumours are indicative of the truth then intel will probably lose their last holdout in terms of meaningful performance wins. This delay to 7nm nodes will not help them win against the relentless aggression from AMD, hence the share price going through the floor today. After the mess on 10nm they really needed 7nm to come through as planned.

Intel is still pricing its CPUs core for core more than AMD. This is why AMD is now trying moves such as the XT series, and pushing prices up again!
I wouldn't be suprised if the zen 3 basic models launch at XT prices which would be a shame as a lot of people go for AMD because it's priced reasonably regardless of the performance.

XT parts launched where non XT parts launched *a year ago*. Now, XT's performance improvements were negligible, so it's effectively an increase over the now-reduced prices of of the non XT parts.

But if Zen 3 launches at these price points it will be a meaningful performance boost at the Zen 2's original launch prices, and I don't have a problem that.

Expecting brand new Zen 3 CPU's, with improved performance, to launch at the same price as CPU's that have a had more than a year's worth of price reductions, doesn't seem reasonable to me.
