AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

There's lots of factors at play here. But I want to impress a couple of things: 1) even though this is an enthusiast forum - with smarter folk or access to research and tap into people working in the IT fields etc. - there is still a huge undercurrent of people that will not deviate from the nvidia mindshare. Just look through this thread alone at the volume of pro-nvidia stances and the defensive interjections leads me to conclude that the "AMD have to be better and cheaper and.." philosophy to be the likely case here.

2) Of course its possible that AMD can charge the same or more if in some cases it beats the equivalent card i.e. 6800XT > 3080. However the only thing making this possible is the lack of nvidia cards to get hold of, and the short supply globally if AMD have not made enough. Due to the mindshare, features like DLSS, RTX, noise cancelling etc. I think it would be quite risky for AMD to charge the same pricing. The last danger is affecting both the brands here and that is mining/science projects buying up bulk stock which makes all GPU's harder to get.
I think most of us know that theses are only deflections and excuses. They are not "capable" of buying a RX6000 series. Nor would they if they were.

You see, what you read about AMD in the context that you infer is called a 'Psy-Op'. Nothing more, nothing less. And I wouldn't be surprised if you argued against a bot about it either, lol.

What I find hilarious is that they've run out of "material". Which is why I think we've reached acceptance.
:D

My bad for hijacking,

Couldn't inbox OP for my question and saw he was active in this thread.

My mistake, thanks to those who helps rather than hindered, appreciated.

Do we have a rough estimate when these cards are available ?

Glad your sorted ..may i ask how long have you been running the VRM's bare ?

Hi,

I essentially fitted it today, ran a quick test perhaps 10 minutes or so - Haven't gamed on it, I'm not that stupid, just don't have the knowledge that some people do regarding this. I read that you can be fine without - so I tried but not in my case so I ended up here. I have been advised to just buy a heat sink block and just cut it to size for my needs, just need to research that and find one small enough in height to not have contact with the bracket. The cards essentially a throwaway as I have a new one ordered but would be nice to get it running to have on the side and the experience of putting it together.

Fanboyism is real and it exists in every facet of life be that preferred football team or fast food restaurant. So it shouldn't be surprising to anyone it exists with video cards as well, and it's fair to acknowledge that it does. But I also take some issue with things being boiled down to one card "beating" another card as if this is some kind of boolean true/false fact. The value offered in the products is substantially more than just raw speed of the cards and the price point at which they exist, this has become an ecosystem with a plethora of different technology which all adds some value to the consumer and so it's getting harder and harder to say objectively that one product beats another unless you're willing to narrow down the conditions for winning to something really simplistic. Of all the things I'm most looking forward to with the AMD reveal is what new technology and features they could reveal along side the hardware itself.

There's something fundamentally asymmetrical about premium pricing and market competition. When you have one clear leader in the market and you have to go to them for whatever it is, then they can afford to put premium prices on things because some people will always want the best and be less concerned with money. But when you have 2 businesses or more, which are competing very close no one can really afford to put premium prices on anything. To really get away with high prices you need to have a decent lead. Nvidia and AMD hopefully being pretty close to neck and neck would be a great thing for consumers, that competition is what drives down prices and pushes innovation forward.

Sounds like a good project ..wish you the best with it

Yeah I think your observation is sensible, I do however feel there is potential that they both just look at one another and stand firm on their own valued perceived price and may not shift downwards regardless of competition between one another.

Normally what breaks that kind of market manipulation is if they're both pricing higher than they otherwise could, but there's imbalance in who is shifting more units. If AMD match Nvidia in most metrics including price but they're not selling as well, there's good reason to believe that undercutting Nvidia on price would bring them more sales and the net profit in doing that would be greater than fewer sales with a higher margin.

Well I've ordered a new monitor that is freesync and potentially g-sync compatible so I'm no longer tied down to just Nvidia. Fingers crossed it works ok!

I really don't want to give up variable refresh rate as that's one of the best things to have happened in recent times for GPU's (for me personally anyway)

Lets hope performance leaks are correct and hope for a decent launch price come wednesday

I will be brutally honest, although I dislike nvidia's principles and things they do like proprietary features, if AMD take the michael with pricing I will consider the 3080, 3070, 3070Ti from what I see as the best deal.

This post should come with some sort of brutality warning.

Im feeling the same as him, i was going to buy a 3080 when i saw the prices and performance, but wanted to leave it a a week or so to see owners impressions and reviews.

If AMD take the mick with prices, im happy to wait for 3080 stock to become plentiful, got a Freesync monitor but im not against losing that for more performance.

You still working for AMD Matt?
