*** AMD "Navi 3X" (RDNA 3 discussion thread) ***

Imagine the heat and power consumption tho to match...

I don't think either AMD nor nV could keep heat under control with that kind of perf upgrade.

"This space heater also plays games!"

AMD said RDNA 3 would be 50% performance per watt improvement over RDNA 2.

The 6900XT is 300 Watts so 2X 6900XT would be 600 Watt, or 450 Watt with the +50% PPW, and 550 Watt at 2.5X 6900XT

The RTX 3090 is 370 Watt.

The R9 290X2 was 580 Watt, so its not as if AMD haven't done 500 to 600 Watt GPU's before and when you're getting MASSIVE performance who really cares and i don't think anyone would argue two and a half times as fast as a 6900XT or RTX 3090 isn't MASSIVE performance.

Edit, that is a 'real' 8K GPU and then some...

That might be wrong.

RDNA 2 is +50% PPW over RDNA 1.

6900XT is pretty much exactly X2 the performance of a 5700XT, which is 225 Watt, X2 = 450 Watt, the 6900XT is 300 Watt so 150 Watt = 50% PPW (300 + 50% = 450, or 450 - 33.3% = 300.15.

Now we know how AMD are working it out

X2 6900XT = 600 Watts + 0.5 = 750 Watt - 33.3% = 500.25 Watt.

RDNA 3 at 2.5X the performance of a 6900XT is a 500 Watt GPU.

What kind of people would actually buy a 500TDP graphics card

I suppose if you live in Iceland or the South Pole then it could be feasible. I certainly won't be going above 300TDP next generation. I want TDP to come down not up.
My 200W 3060Ti already puts out more heat than I was bargaining for. Had to limit the frame rate in BL3 otherwise the case was becoming hot to the touch  And that's with what I consider "normal" cooling, 2x 140mm case fans, in push-pull. The air at the back of the case was hotter than I've ever seen from any of my previous rigs.

And that's a mere 200W GPU :p 500W? Holy moly!

As a 3070Ti owner I'm jealous of the 3060Ti TDP. The 3070Ti at 290W is at the limit of what I'm willing to put up with. Add another 105W of the 5800X and I'm up to 395W of heat. I'm seriously considering downgrading to a 5600X as that thing is insanely efficient at only 65W but worried i'd miss the extra cores.

3060Ti and 5600X should be the goto for people wanting an ice cool system imo.

I'm not sure how feasible is to have that much potential heat dissipated, not only from the GPU itself, but also from the room.
You could justify buying the card for the winter (at least you'll pay less for the heating), but during Summer... :)
