AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

OTT thermal paste application is standard procedure in my experience.

Speaking of nothing new...

Careful with that, its about to get air born

So which brand would you guys go with on the preorder, MSI, ASUS?

Asus have been having a poor time of it with RMA's being refused and trying to blag replacements. I would go with MSI. They had poor cooling on the 7950's but had no problems replacing them.

Out of those two defo MSI. Quicker turn around with RMA and i believe you're allowed to take the cooler off and stay in warranty legit if bought via OCUK. Correct me if i'm wrong on that, i remember it being said though.

Spot on. They emailed me saying "fine, but you break it you lose", which is fair enough (in response to me emailing them about adding a waterblock).

I emailed Gigabyte and they said "No! If you replace the stock cooler or remove any part of the card, you will void your warranty". I was just asking out of politeness and wanting to see what the companies said and would do it what ever :D

Yeah I was leaning towards MSI due to their return policy on custom cooling. I didn't bother mentioning the other manufacturers as I assumed they would be just, worse.

I've been Green Team for the last two cards - are the AMD reference coolers that bad? (even air cooled my current rig is silent)

Most stock coolers are terrible, though arguably the best is the Titan cooler, such a smooth fan profile and isn't all that audible under load. Comparing the normal blower coolers though, Nvidia is only marginally quieter, both need to be drowned in my honest :D

none unless your wanting to watercool, people who are staying on air cooling should wait for the non ref fan designs to be available... but thats ~6+ weeks away :(

instead it will launch around October 24th, while R9 290 should arrive on October 31st (both dates are just rumors, but a very good ones).

So even the new dates are 'rumors' but they were happy to write an article saying that AMD had delayed the launch , if all they had was rumors they shouldn't be allowed to say stuff like that.

AMD has said under NDA the whole time. Not very professional from Videocardz lol. Just want to grab web hits..

So infact there is no delay as there was no dates given, just fud from Videocardz about the launch and then the delay of the launch that they themselves said was happening :p:D Jeezus semi accurate is more accurate than this..
