AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Interesting vid here, TTL talks about rebranding, how Nvidia introduced a new price tier by marketing the Titan so that the 780 seemed like a bargain @ £550 launch

He's talking rubbish, titan didn't introduce any new price tier. Nvidia couldn't manufacture it in any kind of quantities so slapped a stupid Marsesque price on it, 780 came in at the exact price we expect from Nvidia's large die single gpu top end cards.

Well it seems the NDA will be released at 12:01am EDT time tomorrow which will be around 5am UK time which will probably be the time OCUK sends the pre order emails out (going by Gibbo's recent posts). So it will give people a few hours with the 'full' picture to decide whether to purchase or not.

I'm going to have a guess and say the 25th will be the day.

I called it.

It seems we finally have a confirmation of Radeon R9 290 series launch dates.

According to the post from Cardpu Radeon R9 290X will arrive tomorrow on October 24th and Radeon R9 290 will be released a week later. This information is straight from AMD employee Chris Li.

Of course I told you both dates almost a week ago, so there shouldn’t be any surprises.

Additionally here’s my source, also confirming the launch date:

At this rate im right more than Orangey.

We got some new information about the soon to launch Radeon R9 290X. The card that is supposed to launch tomorrow, October 24th in the US and on the 25th in most parts of Europe. There is a time difference of 9 hours between Pacific Time and Central European time.

The Radeon R290X based on AMD’s new Hawaii chip and it should be selling later on the 24th in the US in etail and select retailers for $549 + tax, which sounds quite amazing for a card that can run faster than the Geforce GTX 780 and in Uber mode can even outrun the Titan selected games. EU listings point to €649 including VAT, which sounds about right. Its main competitor, the GTX 780, has an MSRP of $649, but Asus has cards listed for as little as $535.

Of course there is a catch. In quiet mode the card beats Geforce 780 in some games and benchmarks, not all of them. In Uber mode it needs a lot more power and ends up louder than the Radeon HD 7970 Gigahertz edition. People described the cooler noise in Uber noise as quite loud to us, but we must add that we still haven’t heard it firsthand. In Uber mode the R290X is fast enough to win against Titan in a few benchmarks, but not all.

However, there’s a caveat – our sources claim that AMD has not sent out the official price just yet, so even a day before launch it could still change.

Still not going to be able to afford one:/

SO looking forward to the reviews. Amazing the excitement a piece of computer hardware can create. Look at the number of posts in this thread alone, astonishing. PC Gaming dead indeed. Again.

So according to fud launch price of $549, same as 7970, so expect to pay £440 - £480 for reference models.

Also according to Fud in non uber mode it trades blows with the 780, in uber mode it is louder than 7970Ghz reference.

What are you going on about?

I said releasing the titan at such a silly price allowed Nvidia to price the 780 in a higher price bracket which it did.

Actually you dismissed what someone else said about why the 780 is priced as such. The 780 was always going to be 500> regardless of the Titan.

Anyway going OT again - threads about AMD cards
