AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Hi Guys, got a slight problem that I hope you can help with

Picked up a PC 295x2 last week and I love it, a half decent upgrade over my 290s for a little more outlay :D

Only issue I have is that the 120mm fan on the rad has started to make a 'grinding' sound at low speed, I'm guessing the bearings have gone :(

It's not worth RMA'ing for this small issue if I can help it (and have tried a couple of other fans but the card can't seem to drive them :( ). Are their any other compatible fans that I can use with it that anyone knows of?

cheers

Si

I think almost any 120mm fan will do. Check it has a 3 pin header and it should work.

The fan cable from what i remember is only a 2 pin for whatever reason. Was going to replace the stock fan as well but noticed that when i disconnected it.

Yeah. It's 3pin but with 2 active pins. The fan can be regulated via voltage but u can't monitor the speed. The same thing applies to the fan on the card(red one).
However if u disassemble the card u will see that the card has 4 pin going into the pumps and then only 2 wire cables are going to fans.
I believe that If u used some extra cables from the pcb connector connecting fans and pcb u would be able to monitor and control the fans. Worth trying ;)

Just got my 295x2 installed, seems great, was a little stuttering in CoD:AW and when checking in GPU-Z it's showing as running "PCI-E 3.0 x16 @ x16 1.1" (690 did this but went up to @x16 3.0 when it was under load)

is this right / can it be changed?

(spec same as sig, PCI slots set to Gen3 in BIOS, latest mobo bios and 14.12 amd drivers (nvidia ones removed via DDU prior to installation)

[edit] mobo is P9X79 Deluxe

Thanks

Paul

Render test didn't do anything (was running it as i posted)

i removed the overclock of the cpu/ram (the 1-click one in BIOS) and rebooted at stock speeds, and it then showed correctly at 3.0 x16

so i guess it's a BIOS settings/power issue

Hi, I'm really attracted to one of these for my next build, mainly due to some great prices out there right now. I thought I'd ask here in the owners section as to which one to go for as they all seem to have very similar if not the same specks, I'm drawn to the Sapphire but would like to hear what you think.

I think these are all made by AMD then just boxed up by the oem. I'd personally go for the best priced one :)

Just watched and read reviews on this, Now on the review it says 700w as drawn from the wall for the i.e including the whole test rig.

Now, I'm gonna sound like a total nublet for asking this, But would an 850w PSU be safe enough for this card with my rig in the sig ?

I think how much currant that can be drawn though the pci-e cables is the most important thing with this card mate, so make sure the PSU has a strong 12v rail.

It draws 28 amps per 8 pin pci connector IIRC?

Well my current PSU says on the manufacturers site that it has a max of 70 amps on the 12v rail so I'm guessing it should be ok.

In that case you should be good to go mate. :)

Make sure your case is big enough as it is a monstrous card, I managed to shoe horn a 7990 into my case but no such luck with 295x2, had to hack up the HDD cage up to get it in there!

Great card though.

Awesome sauce !

I have the Corsair 780T so I have enough room, I hope :p
