Hi guys. Just a quick question to see if anyone is suffering from severe like coil whine noises on high demanding games/benchmarks please? Mine literally screams at me. I've sent it back to be replaced and the replacement is identical in terms of issues.

My next step is to test another PSU with it but thought it was worth an ask. Regards

I've not had any whine at all from mine even when running some older benches at 200+ fps. What PSU are you using?

That's what i suspected when i looked at his signature.

Watlinguk if you decide to go down the route, get a 1000W Superflower platinum PSU. :)

I used to have the OCZ 1250w PSU running 2x MSI 290X and it was fine, that being said the load was spread over 4 PCI-E connectors, I don't think I would have trusted it with the currant required for a 295x2 to be drawn through just 2 cables.

I now have a Silverstone SST-1500W with the 295x2 and 290x and no whine at all.

I'm placing bets that the coil whine is caused by his PSU, as to get two different 295's with Coil Whine seems quite unlikely.

Agreed, the OCZ wasn't a bad PSU but the 295 is not your average card and it demands a lot of clean stable power that I honestly don't think the OCZ could provide.

Is they any point in trying to test it with a coolermaster 850 watt? (can't think of the model name)

Kindest regards

You can try it, but that psu sounds even worse. :p

Get a decent SuperFlower unit, it's a part of the pc that you should never skimp on.

Shame as im only trying to eliminate if it is the PSU or not, would hate to buy a brand new unit for it to sound the same haha especially when the OCZ was quite expensive when i bought it :)

Just out of curiosity what are the PSU brands i should be looking at? I only have plans to run the signature in my sig but i wouldn't rule out maybe a second 295x2 in the future (if i can control the beats growl :))

Yeah I paid like £230 or something for the OCZ, think I sold it for £80. It is what it is and is the nature of anything tech related. :)

The Superflowers like Matt say's are highly rated, my Silverstone Strider SST-1500 has been rock solid also.

This is what you want mate. Will give you headroom for a second 295x2 at a later date.

If that's out of your price range then one of these should do it for a single 295x2. (and maybe enough for 2x295 but it will be right on the limit)

Okay guys appreciate it, Sorry to be stupid as im only familiar with wattage on PSUs

What is the difference between that and the OCZ one i have please?

SuperFlower are top notch psu's with one single powerful 12v rail. OcZ make psu's with the 12V spread over different rails. This generally = bad, especially when you have to power a beast like a 295x2.

I cant remember exactly but I think the OCZ did have a fairly strong 12v single rail, but I don't think the components are up to par with other high end PSU manufactures, so while it will run the 295x2 and most likely be OK the lower grade components inside may be causing whine.

I am not a PSU expert by any means but that is honestly where my money would go to try and rectify the issue as I feel two different 295 that whine is very unlikely (not impossible).
