He's not wrong though is he,£399 ,for an asthmatic 3900x

It needs to be around £300,£350 at a hard push

Yeah he is wrong, but as to your point it depends if saving the £50 is worth it to you.

As for £300-350 you would never be able to keep stock at that price. You could build a very disruptive business around that chip.

If productivity is your thing whilst on a budget the new Ryzen 1600 AF is looking handy, basically a 2600 for £85 ish, decent alternative to the 3500X if you don't fancy running the import gauntlet.

This could do with it's own thread so it doesn't get missed.

I'm not sure what the issue is the non-X 3900 at £399 is from a UK seller, not an importer. You could go and collect one today from their shop if you wanted to, just the same as you can with OCUK.

Now moving along, I have seen the 3500X popping up for sale locally now, but at an inflated price of £129 which seems a bit pointless against the R5 2600, or the £20 more 2700X.

If it gets held in customs then it will likely end up costing more than the 3900x

As Journey said, no customs to get held up in. Available in the UK and EU. That should include a two year warranty also.

Just having a look at the shop and it looks like the 3900X is now £469. They probably sold a lot of them at £450. It was a bargain price TBF.

Found a source that is selling 3900 (non-x) along with a motherboard (I guess that's how they are getting around the OEM only thing).
But they are not really selling at much of a discount compared to the 3900X, so it's a pointless endeavor at this time.

The old trick was OEM chip plus a molex cable.

There's also a 2700e which was OEM only. Supposedly been out since September 2018 but never saw any obtainable anywhere lately. Not sure if they ever have been. They are only 45 TDP so desirable for 8 core in a server. Anyone ever seen any?

How you getting along with the chip now?

I still see some retail boxed ones for sale but for £150

Nah for £110 (and below) it is (was) a good value buy.
I've been playing a little bit of Jedi Fallen Order and The Witcher 3 @ 3440x1440p and the framerate is well above the minimum freesync threshold.

Of coarse I am trying to secure a 3900 (non-x) now as my final upgrade until the 4xxx range lol. (but it has to be for right price or it can wait).

Well chaps... where there is a will, there is a way.

Ryzen 9 3900 (non-X) - ORDERED

I did have to take a motherboard with it (so I made sure I picked a half decent model that people are after).
The plan is to flip the motherboard and the 3500X and re-coup some cash.

[EDIT] The 3500X and mobo are now 'listed'.
[EDIT 2] Sold!
