If productivity is your thing whilst on a budget the new Ryzen 1600 AF is looking handy, basically a 2600 for £85 ish, decent alternative to the 3500X if you don't fancy running the import gauntlet.

Stop teasing and blab!!!

Edit,still too much though

£399 is what I consider a pretty darn good price for a 12c/24t CPU, than you can use in a £80 motherboard if you need have the workload for it. We'll have to see what Intel do with the 10900K(S?) for with 10c/20t and at what price to see if AMD respond at all.

Yeah, not that long ago we would have been looking at enterprise level hardware for this kind of performance. Although £399 is a lot of money it’s a bargain for a chip with this level of performance. I’m seriously tempted to build a home server/workstation around 60 watt desktop Ryzen 3900. It’s crazy this is even an option with desktop level parts and for desktop money.

Trouble is you can buy the full 3900x and run it at 65w tdp in the bios from what ive read, and its just £50 more

You can and you can probably run the 3900 at 100watts. It’s close call to what is the better option. £399 just looks better than £450.

£399 = ordering from China, no warranty
£450 = ordering locally, full warranty, proper returns process

Doesn't seem like a hard choice, given the amount of money being spent :p
