AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D retail processor has been tested ahead of launch

Eh, maybe because it’s being released solely for gaming. Anyone buying this chip will surely know that.
Really? The 7700k was being released for gaming but it didnt lose on everything else. I mean come on, if amd could make it faster in st or mt they would. They couldn't, so that's why it loses.

Exactly. Gamers for whom money is no object buy the likes of the 12900KS for gaming alone so something like the X3D targets a similar market, just at a far lower price point. Will make a good CPU for gamers currently using a 2000 or 3000 series Ryzen to help them eke out their AM4 board a little longer.
Bingo, and that is why it will sell well if it as good at gaming as it appears to be.

You know it works with ddr4 right? Right?

Then it is slower and you still have a more expensive motherboard. For a new builder the cost increase might be worth the performance gained, especially if they play any of the games the X3D does really well in. For an existing AM4 owner who wants this level of gaming performance there is no other competition at this price point. You cannot build a competitive Intel based gaming rig for £420. A good B660 motherboard is ~£150 which leaves you £270 for a CPU so you can get a 12600KF.

Does the 5800x3d work without a motherboard? Im confused

Can you read?

New builder the X3D will be a bit more expensive but have higher performance so is the cost worth the performance gain? Depends on the buyer.

For an existing AM4 owner there is nothing that Intel can offer in the £420 region that competes. To switch you need a new Mobo and a CPU and after buying a decent B660 motherboard you have enough for a 12600KF or maybe a 12700F depending on motherboard choice.

Well i mean, you are saying that if you already have a motherboard the 5800x3d isnt as expensive. Yeah okay, that's a little bit captain obvious fact but nevermind...

And even more dead end than a ddr4 z690

You do know am4 is like 6 years old so there will be a lot of people with it and just can drop this chip in ? And have like the highest gaming performance ?

Don't know how you can compare it to z690 the support has been totally different

Think you need to do some research how much generation of chips the am4 has gone through and do the same with z690

Can imagine people with am4 with Ryzen 2000/3000 this would give really good gaming boost drop in upgrade

While on the other hand, the am4 is... Oh nevermind

My AM4 board is over 4 years old. I can plop this CPU into it and have top tier gaming performance which will last me another 5/6 years (assuming no failure). 10 years out of a Mobo is really good going so at this point I don't care that it is dead end. DDR5 is too expensive right now and even the fastest available right now is probably only going to be the bog standard DDR4 3600 C16 equivalent so I am in no rush at all to jump on a DDR5 based platform.

EDIT: And I don't mean it will be top tier in 5 years time of course.

Exactly, I have an expensive motherboard and RAM, if I can get a few more years out of them that's great. By then the tech will have moved on even more making an upgrade more worthwhile.
