AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

Except for direct stream copy cutting&joining video editing is heavily computationally bottlenecked.

Until that 16GB runs out...
At that point its clocks/latency are as usefull as lawnmover in moon rocket.

With just minimal programs at background 16GB will be fine for year or so.
But once next-gen consoles are out, then memory usage of AAA/big budget games is going to increase.
16GB will be fine for years. Even 16GB wasn't really required for years either even though enthusiasts were plonking in such amounts for yonks.

The consoles are not out until 2020,and it's not like suddenly games will stop being developed for the current generation of consoles, or suddenly 100% of the new consoles will be 100% utilised at launch.

It will be years when all of a sudden 16GB becomes a big problem. DDR5 will also be more expensive at launch than DDR4.

Do we know how well memory overclocks on Ryzen 3000 when using a B450 board?
I have the 8 Pack 4133MHZ RAM and was hoping to get it running at the IF speed with tighter timings.
I have no need for PCIE4 so was thinking of getting the B450 Carbon but not sure if it would handle such memory speeds?

To be fair I always make sure to close chrome and any other programs before starting a game. So really I am only ever running a game and maybe discord. I guess for that purpose I should just stick with 16GB and save £170.

That's £170 better spent elsewhere

Precision Boost Overdrive already pretty much achieves that.
If motherboard can provide more current and CPU isn't too hot, it automatically relaxes TDP.
Is PBO adjustable though? Typically "automatic" overclocks like that use more voltage than is necessary.

meh b die/ lower Cas latency DDR4. Why not save the money for higher frequency DDR5 in 2020/2021? It's not so far away. Or, maybe I need to read more reviews lol.

DDR5 base frequency is apparently 4800MHz...

That's a good price. What's you basis for it being able to run at 3600 - because its likely b-die?

Just going by testimonials that I've read online, and by reports of vastly increased memory performance from Zen2. I'm not prepared to spend 160 on memory to go with a 3700x, at that point I'd be vastly better off spending the money on getting the 3800x instead, or putting toward a better GPU.

The black/yellow version can be found for just under 100.

2700X and below reduced in price as expected so they fall in line with the new CPU's launching on Sunday. ;)
I wonder if the R5 2600 will fall further. If it gets to £100 over the next month or so it'd probably be the best bang-for-buck CPU ever (if it isn't already).

@EsaT VRam and system ram will be 10GB total i thought ? Havent really checked out spec's of incoming
In latest rumours PS5 is said to have like ~20GB or so for games and 4GB for OS.
10GB for console supposed to last another half dozen+ years would be commercial seppuku and Sony could as well say that phones are going to replace Playstation.

Just like 640kB?
While smaller budget games will be heavily designed with old console limitations in mind, you can bet your head that both Microsoft and Sony want AAA games to show big difference to old consoles fast after release.

Also hasn't Sony been advertising about one of the goals of PS5 being overall shortening of loading times?
That means game doing some pre-loading of next level etc assets into memory already during previous level.
Well, I guess game developers can just disable that code in compiler for PC "master race" version...
