AMD's FSR3 possibly next month ?

I hope that FSR3 (with frame generation) becomes the norm in the most demanding new games (with DLSS 3 added later), it would make sense from a developers point of view, as it will work on all graphics cards released in the last few years.

Now that it's open source, perhaps this is something that many developers will try to implement.

Wonder when AMD will roll out the FMF toggle at driver level in their consumer drivers? I’ve been using the preview driver to get this feature so far. It’s worked well in Cyberpunk as managing to play >60 fps at 1440p and at Ultra RT on a 7800XT with FMF on (without it was getting drops to low 50s fps).

Tried out the FSR 3/frame gen mod with DLSS in cp 2077 and it's the best implementation so far (modders/community as per usual doing a better job than amd ), it's actually usable especially compared to avatar (which for me felt and looked awful once you got past the starting area)

You probably won't be able to see the extra fluidity since youtube only outputs 60 fps, it is definetly more fluid in motion when seeing with your own eyes, however, there is some slight micro stuttering (less than avatars fsr 3 though) and there is noticeable latency with this but not bad enough to put me off and still within tolerable levels (with avatar at similar fps, I couldn't tell/feel any extra latency and if anything, it felt more responsive so this may just be difference between official integration and mod). Based on my testing with nvidia frame gen in cp 2077 on geforce now 4080, their frame gen definetly makes the fps feel/look more like native 80+ fps where as amds frame gen doesn't quite feel like what the fps counter is showing, possibly down to the micro stutter and extra latency impacting this.

Best thing is obviously being able to use dlss with it so hopefully amd in future versions of fsr 3 will stop locking frame gen to be used only with their upscaling solution.

Why use this? Why not just use the preview driver from AMD? I can toggle frame gen on or off easily in Adrenalin.

Preview driver didn't use motion vectors for frame generation which is why it turns off during rapid movements, FSR3 does and is therefor active all the time. FSR3 also requires some in engine/dll implementation where as FMF does not.

Good to hear. Hopefully AMD keep improving it and get frame gen right at least, because I lost hope with regards to their upscaling tech.

Happy to hear Intel giving it a go also. Between Intel and AMD we may get to a place where we don't need to be stuck with Nvidia due to gap closing.

Yeah I have no faith in them improving FSR upscaling as it means they'll have to take ownership and it's been stated so many times by them, it's entirely up to the devs to get the best from it. So for me FSR upscaling is still a no go and is mainly why I won't touch amds gpus (unless xess adoption rate improves)

Frame gen on the other hand, the fake frames are so hard to pick out, literally impossible without slowing footage down or even having to pause it (as hub stated themselves) so you can't really see the issues with IQ like you can with upscaling tech (speaking of which, I'm amazed hub etc. didn't pick out the fsr 3 fake frames to make it out like a huge issue as they did with nvidias frame gen :p) and the whole point of fake frames is to improve motion fluidity by achieving a higher fps which this is achieving.

Like nvidias frame gen, only thing is you really do need a min base fps of 60 to get the best results.

Would be nice, but you still have ray reconstruction which hasnt been tackled by neither of the other 2 atm and who knows what else by the time they do.

I can't get it working with The Witcher 3, frame gen is unticked and DLSS enabled, still 40fps

I assume the wrapper ONLY works with 4000 series cards as it's Frame Gen? If so why do people say it's working on there 3000 series?

Hmmmm

enables frame gen for 3000 series cards

OMG IT WORKS ON MY 3070 TI!!!

Find the directory where you installed the game. This is different depending on which platform you own the game.
Download dlssg-to-fsr3-0.3.zip. If you have problems with this version, try older version
https://github.com/Nukem9/dlssg-to-fsr3/releases (dlssg-to-fsr3-0.3.zip)
Copy the “dlssg_to_fsr3_amd_is_better.dll” and “dbghelp.dll” files into the directory you found in step 1.
If there’s any popups about replacing existing files, press yes.
Now launch the game. You should get a popup telling that the dlssg-to-fsr3 is loaded and the mod is experimental.
Enable the setting and select DLSS or FSR as upscaler (DLSS recommended on supported GPUs, you may also enable ray reconstruction.)
Select Frame Gen - ON in options

OFF
43FPS
DLSS-0.jpg

ON
70/73FPS

Just tested in Cyberpunk. Doesn't work - as soon as I enable frame gen in the menu it hard crashes.

I also notice that before I try to turn on frame gen, there is now noticeable judder on camera pans. If I remove the 2 dll files it goes back to being perfectly smooth.

Not a good start. I really am just going to have to get a ******* 40 series card at some point.

Guess it depends on the game, works perfectly in The Witcher 3.

Going to try Alan Wake now

"The game crashed due to a graphics card (GPU) fault and will now exit. Your progress from the last checkpoint has been saved. Please restart the game to continue from the last checkpoint. If you're running into GPU crashes often, try the following: 1. Update your GPU driver to the newest available one. 2. Disable any over/underclocking applied to your GPU. 3. Close any programs that might be using GPU memory. If the problem persists, please report the issue through the Epic Games Player Support page for Alan Wake 2".

Crashes Alan Wake, works perfectly in The Witcher 3

UPDATE - the crash to desktop in Cyberpunk is related to HDR - Totally disable HDR and it doesn't crash. Sigh. No way I'm giving up HDR.

However, frame gen doesn't work properly at all. Very very stuttery and the frame time graph is all over the place. I appreciate this is an early mod, but it seems like a hot mess at the moment.

EDIT - got it working now in Cyberpunk. It seems the awful stutter is caused if you run your screen at a non native resolution (I run my 4k oled screen at a custom 3840x1620 ultrwide res for almost all games) Once I set to native 4k and then tried I got it working. If I then set my screen to 3840x1620 once in game it carried on working with no stutter!

Seems to work quite well and is worth experimenting with for sure but HDR not working with it (yet) is an absolute no from me. Going to try other games.....

I have tried it in other games like hogwarts and so on and they don't work, the file you have to replace seems to be in different folders, which probably affects how it works.

Also, read the same that hdr doesn't work so alas, gone back to not being usable status, although official integration hdr works so guess if people want to use it, just have to keep on waiting for amd and game devs to pull the finger out.
