An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Morrowind was easy as soon as you worked out the trick: compass directions are always precise - if an NPC says "South", then he/she/it means exactly South. Apart from two quests where the dev team couldn't tell West from East. And I liked the fact that you had to search.

And no, you can't wear armour over/under clothes, only instead of.

M

Hmmm, most of the times it was generally correct, you could be going in the right direction, but how far in the right direction was another difficult part. Sometimes the quest giver would be quite vague and just say "To the south past a bridge next to a cave", which wouldn't be much help at all. (Exaggerated a bit but that kind of thing)

Got a bit stuck :/

I completed DB quests and most of the mage and fighters guild and a few thevies guild but i also completed the main quest about 55 hours in and now i cant finish fighter or mage quests.

Everytime i talk to them they dont have anything for me ive been to every city and ive read the quest guide and talked to exactly the people it wanted me to talk to and nothing.

My fame is very high compared to my infamy (closed 17 oblivion gates before main quest).

Im level 28 and my level 25umbra sword seems like the only thing worth having.

I got the umbra sword at level 8 and it's levelling with me aswell and nothing else seems worth while.

I do have a few nice spells tho.

I have a house full of glass/daedric/dragon etc etc armour and none of it seems decent at all.

A few days ago i got this really good 1h blade weapon, which i think is actually better than umbra...

In any case, i was wondering if people were finding it easy after getting this weapon. It seems very overpowering...

The weapon in question is (highlight to read)
Goldbrand which i'm currently doing 23 pt normal damage and 22pt fire damage. Add to that a custom spell i'm using which has 100% weakness to fire over 5 seconds, and 11pt fire damage over 5 seconds. That's like 67pts damage with just one hit of a sword . Added to the cumulative fire damage then i have a blade wielding maniac. Also, i've noticed with transcended sigil stones that you could basically create similiar over powering weapons.

What quest have you just done in the mages guild?

I enchant my daedric armour with 10% shield hehe. I have 80 armour points even though my heavy armour is a paltry level 66

all of the mages guild recommendations and the first 3 quests for raminus.

That mean you just completed vahtacen's secret then? You should get a new robe after completing that and then you should be told to talk to tar meena in the arcane university library about another quest

Oh, btw the next quest, necromancers moon is like the easiest quest ever LOL

Yep i got that robe, im not wearing it tho? it's in my house stored with everything else.

Ive mostly used the DB Armour and gear along with Umbra sword and no shield...

Have'nt found 1 decent shield yet...

My spells are pretty high tho so i usually wipe through enemy's easily

If you don't mind heavy armour along with your DB armour then the Escutcheon of Chorrol is an amazing shield. You get it for doing a series of quests starting off with "Seperated at Birth" which is based in chorrol.

Pics of the shield :)

Have I gone too far in the story?

I did up to destroying paradise and now whenever I go to an oblivion gate and try to go through it, it says "this door goes nowhere" or something like that. Do they ever re-open or am I stuck for fame?

I imagined that later on it would be my mission to close EVERY oblivion gate one by one but apparently not. Am I going to have to start again?

That is a very nice shield, shame I only wear light armour to keep my speed up, being a marksman etc. I will post a picture of a very nice glass shield I found, similar to the chorrol one, just downgraded for light armour.

Also, Fx-Overlord, what UI is that? With the elongated compass? Or is that just widescreen resolution? I have a mod which does various things, and makes it so you can see more items in your inventory, but yours seems to show more.

Fx-Overlord that screenie of the shield... how comes you have the health, compass etc at the screen so small? I want mine like that? Is it cos you have the game on a bigger res? Im running it on 1600x1200 at the mo?

Yeah, its BTmod 2.2 with a few customised files from DarN which you can find here

I've actually customised BTmod a little myself, and will probably replace the fonts aswell, since they don't that great in the subtitles. BTmod is quite customisable if you take the time to look into the xml files.

So far I’ve closed 16 oblivion gates, finished the arena, fighter’s guild, and mages guild, and I’ve done 2 shrine quests and loads of sub quests.

I've found loads of nirnroot about 29 now and think I need 1 more 2 finish the quest. I own a house which I am using as storage, so far nothing has been stolen or taken from the house, the food magically re-appears every so often which is a bit strange, but the rest of the stuff in draws and cupboards and littered around, stuff I’ve put in them has stayed. Got some mannequins with armour and clothes on littered through the house, as well as instruments for making potions and stuff.

The 2 shrine quest have been the most rewarding, the disrupting the party one was the best so funny, I decided to see how long I could hold off the guards, got my bounty over 18,000 :D

The other shrine quest I've done gave me a mages staff that fires a spell that clones the target and then they fight it out, funny to do on a load of guards and watch then brawl.

Spend way to much time on the game and still want to close loads of oblivion gates and I've got tons to find and do line the nine divines quest.

Going start the Dark Brotherhood and thieves guild quests next. Want to leave the main quest to the very end.

May character was creates so I level up very slowly, so the skills I don't use often are my major skills and the skills I use all the time are my manor skills. I am level 8 and nothing can touch me at the moment plus got loads of enchanted weapons and stuff.

Will level up when I get board of the same monsters and items, but i am still finding new and interesting items. There’s just so much that I don’t want to miss anything so taking my time exploring and discovering thing in this awesome world. Got a feeling this will be the game of 2006. :)

Hi, I've played this game for 37+hrs and have yet to come across any oblivion gates  I haven't yet done any of the main quests and have concentrated mainly on the fighters guild quests. Where do you find oblivion gates and how do you close them?
Is it best to do the main quest first or wait till your a specific level before starting it?
I'm really enjoying this game and it looks fantastic even though it chugs along with my XT850XT PE :( (Time to upgrade I feel).

just go wondering out into the wilderness, take a look at your map, walk down a road for a bit and then just head off and walk around bit's of the map where there isn't anything specified. you'll come across loads of stuff that isn't initially on the map including oblivion gates.

they are gates just like town gates, and lead into levels of oblivion. don't worry, you'll know it's an oblivion gate as soon as you see it, they stick out if you know what i mean.

how do you close them?
you gots to go there...

You need to start the main quest to get the gates to spawn. Do the main quest after completing everything else cos apparently you can't do them after you finish the game.

yer, when you end the main quest all the gates shut.. so don't rush the story if you want to shut as many gates as you can, to milk the rewards.

hi there, got stuck again ...
there is this quest ' unfriendly competition ' or something...i have to folow thoromir after he has closed his show...usually he goes to the merchants inn first and then meeting some other guys ( a trapper ). I suspect him to trade with thieves and such ( allthough i am one myself...) so i followed him EVERYwhere, then talked to th epeeps he talked to, i even followed that trapper for quite a while...nothing works ! when i go to their meetingplace ( the liittle garden ) i find a hollow piece of tree, but nothings in it. i cant ask thoromir anything allthough the questmarker ( lil green arrow in the compas ) keeps marking him...what to do?
