Umbra is NOT leveled, but fixed at level 50 - so killing her at level 7 is a) difficult, and b) impressive.
I bought a Avari something sword for 4k that breaks the opponent weapon/armour on strike and after three hits she lost her weapon so she had to use her fists, I used Adrenaline before fighting and recharged health during battle, I failed once and the 2nd time she died just before I went down.

Anyone know how do you get glow dust from willow the whisp ?

Don't know if this has been posted before but I dont fancy looking through 93 pages

Kill them. It's on their corpse.

you need a silver/daedric/enchanted weapon to harm them though. But spells work fine.

I did all mage guild quests and then got Staff of Lightning which I then used on Umbra at about lvl 8 or so, it kills any creature in the game very quickly up to lvl 17. Felt dirty afterwards. :(

you kill one, they're yellow glowing things or invisible. one attacked me on the way to azura's shrine - which was nice. Either look for them at night or with a constant effect detect life helm or something. Then it's just like getting rat meat from a rat.

I killed Umbra with my Fingers of the Mountain spell - I got 140shock on target in 5ft. - but I was about lvl 25 at the time so it's no where near as impressive as a lvl 8 getting her.

Thanks...
This game ain't no 5 miute wonder :D

Man I feel so behind you guys (proberly cos I am) I just brought a steel helmet and armour and thought dang that looks cool....

I got the brotherhood armour on atm which is better that or the steel lot?

Oh and how you guys getting all these good weapons/armour anyhow? joining any specific guilds?

I killed Umbra by wearing my uber-sexy Chameleon suit. Makes combat so easy but It means I don't have to get annoyed by stupid enemies when all I want is LOOT! :D

Thing is, theres nothing in my quests page about finding his house, so im stumped lol :(

Also, in order to go up a level, do I have to level everything? Because its just stuck at the start on the level progress indicator.

No, you have to gain ten skill experience levels in any of your seven major skills, in any combination. So if you have heavy armour as a major, but not light, then there's no point in wearing light armour (well there is, but it would take too long to explain) if you want to level up. ONLY major skills count towards leveling, but miscellaneous skills do count towards leveling multipliers. So you could level up by (say) three skill points in heavy, two in blade, two in armourer, one in athletics and two in destruction, as long as all were majors.

But bear in mind that all monsters level along with you, so the gains are minor at best.

goldbrand is far superior to umbra :p

as a weapon for killing, I totally agree. But it's always good to carry Umbra and Azura's Star around with you so when Goldbrand runs out of charge, you can just summon a couple of Daedroth and you're back to full charge :)

Once Umbra weighs what its supposed to its better to use a soul trap spell, or something lighter. I don't use Goldbrand either, a Daedric longsword with 25pts Health Absorb (via Sigil Stone) is my current weapon of choice.

You could always just not do the quest so that it always weighs nothing, but I agree it would be easier to just have a soul trap spell.

Or just do what I did, and enchant a regular weapon (a dagger) with a soul trap enhancement that lasts for a second. Using a grand soul, this nets you 533 charges.

True, but that means you have to get the killing blow with that dagger, whereas with a spell/umbra, the soul trap lasts a lot longer, meaning u can get a quick hit in and kill them from range if u are a marksman/caster. Also it means you have to switch weapons from your more powerful weapon to the dagger.

I ended up making a spell (called it Coup de Grace :p) that hits for 10pts of Fire/Frost/Shock and Damage Health over 2 seconds, and soul trap for 5 seconds (so if they don't quite die, a weapon hit will still acheive the desired result). Costs about 70 magicka to cast with Destruction ~80.

I missed out on all the good Sigil Stones, I did too much of the main story too early on and now all the oblivion gates say "this door leads to nowhere" :(

Goldbrand suits me fine though, rarely needs more than 3 hits, with that and lvl 100 destruction, my character is pretty safe.
