An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

anyone with a high end rig getting really poor performance? for some reason my 7800GTX is barely managing to hold 30fps most of the time, which is annoying since i upgraded just to play this game...i tried some tweak guides but they actually make my performance worse.

had the game since launch, just gave up on it since i find the fps im getting unplayable :(

Have you not read anything about oblivion on the net? :)

There's a ton of posts, threads etc etc about oblivion performance, and loads of tweak guides to get it running smoother. :)

Not me, I'm getting fine FPS, well I dont actually know what FPS i'm getting but it's running smooth. ;)

All high, bloom & 6x.. vsync off.

No offence, but that's not terribly useful. Use the console (` key) and type tdt to see fps.

You could define 'smooth' as 20fps and you could be running 640x480 ;)

On the system in sig, I'm running 1600x1200, HDR with all the sliders to the right (except a few of the shadow options). Getting ~40fps outside and ~80fps inside. Vsync off.

Man, I wish I'd got this game when this thread started!

I'm playing for the third time now, as I wasn't happy with some of the pants skills some of the otherwise decent classes had. (Archer was pretty close, as was Assasin and Thief)

I'm a Kharjiit (sp?), Warrior Birthsign, custom class specialising in:

Alchemy
Block
Light Armor
Marksman
Restoration
Security
Sneak

Now I'm really going to get into this game! It's awsome, and I'm not normally one for RPGs! (Apart from Zelda, which isn't quite the same ;))
 
Did you know if you pick something up with the Z key like a Ink Well you get 1 gold bounty but in your status screen it shows 0 bounty I'm using this tech I found to see if I can lower skills with out getting any infamy. If this works I'm hoping to get my new Breton female over lv 200.
 
tried really everything i know now, just cant get it running smoothly :( its strange it actually runs worse when i do the tweaks than it does normally, took a few tests of my fps in various locations around imp.city, with tweaks most of them were between 15 and 25 fps and without tweaks i was getting 29-34ish, which is still unplayable to me :o and dont give me that crap about not being able to see over 30fps with my eyes, therse a clear difference in smoothness between 30 and 60fps! :p

What's your specs and what res are you using?

Have you read the tweakguides guide? I found turning self-shadows, grass shadows off and soft shadows to low really helped.
 
A64 3200+ @ 2.5ghz, 7800GT extreme editon, 1 gig of geil golden dragon ram, 1024x768 res (max my ageing monitor will support :p)

i tried every guide there is, i get poor fps no matter what i tweak, like i said, i even actually get better fps untweaked for some reason. one thing which does seem to give a large fps boost is turning the grass distance to very low in the options but the game looks silly without them :o
