An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

TES (The Elder Scrolls) is the name of the game series, of which Morrowind was the 3rd, and Oblivion the 4th.

I am assuming you meant to say CS (Construction Set). If you did , this can be downloaded from http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Main_Page

Ah cool! I did mean the construcion kit, just had TES stuck in my mind for some reason, no idea why I didn't add construction kit on the end!

What spells would you guys consider MUST HAVE for a mage?

Healing spell
Fireball
Fire Bite or Shocking touch etc
Summon Minion (I like the skeletons)
Soultrap (have yet to use it in Obliv but in Mrwnd it was a good way of getting money)
If you are a pure mage then bound armour and weapons are great
Beguiling Touch (a good illusion practice spell and handy for getting a disposition boost)

Am sure there are others but these are my main favs

Does anyone know if it's possible to get another set or find the one I discarded (without realising I needed it).
go to the arena and look in the cupboards in the area where the Bloodmaster is, each cupboard contains 5x light armor and 5x heavy armor... so if they run out of charge (since they're magical) or need repair and you can't do it or can't afford it just take a new one :)

todays CAD made me laugh... (rehosted and blanked out naughty word)

how do i upgrade spells, eg open very easy lock, can i make that do harder locks? and flare, surely there is an upgraded version, like fireball?

while writing this i though you might have to buy them?
shame i have very little money if this is the case

yes mate, the spells dont upgrade themselves, you've just got to go and purchase the next level up of that spell (which obviously uses more Magicka when used)

I would strongly recommend you look at alchemy then, I spent a load of time last night using up all the ingredients I picked up and made a nice 2000 gold to add to the 1000 I already had.

You can get better spells which are not cheap, you need to be at the right skill level to be able to cast them though.

Anyone managed to work out how to delete spells yet? (if possible)

Tried shift click like in Morrowind, but doesnt work :(

I'm gonna have a REALLY big spell list soon

Has anyone got the game and has similar set up to this

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz, 512MB RAM, NVIDIA GeFORCE Fx 5900 xt

What dose it run and look like?

Thanks guys

Just to add to the discussion about choosing your skills etc at the begining of the game. Sorry for any repetition.

It's a good idea to pay close attention to which attribute your skills effect, try to choose skills which give you a spread of governing attributes. That way you will get a good number of multipliers on a selection of attributes when you level up. Then you should find that you will not end up with a few at 100 while the rest are still at 40.

Even for a mage it is a good idea to choose a couple of skills that you would use that effect strength and endurance (blade and block for example) that way you get get a higher carrying capacity and more hit points sooner than without.

I always choose speechcraft which gives personality a good boost as I level. I like going around smooth talking everyone makes life a lot easier :)

I found 1 small issue with my mage at the moment, a couple of my magic skills are at around 20 and I have no spells of that type to practice wiith to increase my skills, I also cannot find anyone with required low level spells. Which means I have to find some trainers and spend all my hard earned money to be able to use the only spells I can find which are higher leveled.

That also makes the 5 training sessions per level limit a pain in the butt.

I suppose I've gone on enough, time to go back in :)

Heal self
Paralyse on touch
Fireball
summon monsters, just got summon skamp and hes well handy

Just get as many as you can then when you get access to the mage academy you can make your own custom versions.

I was actually doing that on my mage (sort of intended to be battle mage, but i never used melee), selected blades and light armor as majors, but light armor rose too fast in a useless attribute (speed i think)

Now ive got a pure mage, but for the 1st few levels, i trained h. armor, block, armorer, and blade/blunt/h2h while exploring.

Just wear heavy armor when you battle, block then attack, they go up real quick because they are at low level. so for the 1st few levels, you will get +5s for str and end, much harder as those skills lvl up, but you only want str and end for the 1st few levels anyway since you're a mage!

Oh dear god. This game is harder on the graphics card than I thought. Just dusted my PC and turned off bloom and AA. Exited the game and according to nvidia control panel, the graphics card core was at 106 degrees centigrade

*cracks eggs onto graphics card*

Just got this, runs like stonk on my rig *ha*

Auto'd at "ultra high settings" then i hoofed everything up, no hdr, bloom and 2xaa at 12x10.

Playable, very playable. Just :P

I have no idea what to do :D Walking round aimlessly is fun, goto an oblivion gate portal thing.

Anyway I've heared that there are a few config tweaks in order to take screenies and grass effects and stuff? know where i can obtain these?

There is a bargain spells store in the market district of the Imperial city. The shopkeeping has spells such as light for x seconds (alteration) and bind dagger (conjuration) and other low level spells from the other schools of magic. At a low level you only need to cast each a couple of times to level up.

Hmmm, just had a second stab at the game, after 3-4 hours yesterday and pretty impressed, but now, I don't think I like it as much as I first did

Firstly, I have a 6800GT oc'd to a 6800NU and I'm lucky if I get 25fps with a res 1280x1024. Done the various tweaks for Nvidia cards. Seems to look better with HDR on (eg the grass loads in a sort of fade, rather than just appears when I'm only a few yards away). But with HDR on I get 12FPS in daytime in a town. Put it back to bloom with 2x AA on and no v-sync and the grass loads in that crap appearing way but, I get low 20's FPS. So I'm gonna have to play this with the eye candy turned off :( Unless a tweak guide comes out soon and it works for me.

Secondly, the days change far too quick and half the time I find myself running around in the dark. Outside and all the dungeons I've been in are V dark, and it's a nightmare having to keep switch to a torch then get attacked with no shield up. Think I'm gonna have to re-roll that class that can see in the dark.

Thirdly, I just can't get to grips with the UI and how to fight. I'm dying on just about every mob. About 4-5 hits and I'm running away spamming heals. Then drink magik pot and try the next. I also hate the way I have to open the journal to see any kind of stat.

Maybe I've just grown to use to WoW, but not as impressed as I first was.

have just done "tdt" in the ` menu, and i'm getting a pretty constant 35 FPS outside
4000+ @ 2.6GHz
7800gt
2gb G.Skill
game installed on a 74gb Raptor
inside (depending where) it hits around 70+
