Aah but it's their attempts to modify the scuds for more range and to carry bio/chemical weapons causing a stir is it not?

Yes indeed. Something that hasn't been proven, but worth murdering lots of people over. Great.

An argument I've heard a few times today goes like this -

"Iraq must be invaded because they could potentially (if left to their own devices) build weapons of mass destruction, and then use them on innocent folk"

Is that a common view here?

I personally find it absurd. It assumes some mystical power to see into the future and predict actions. On that basis we might as well attack everyone, including ourselves on the offchance that one day they'll be fighting.

A sad day for this country imho. As I've said before, it makes me ashamed to be British.

A couple of mates out there have got in contact with their girlfriends over last couple of days. And both apparently told the girls that they were concerened with all the protesting going on and if there was any public support at all. If all they see is anti-war protests, back in the UK, continueing for however long this war goes on for...
how are they to know 'The population is grateful, for them risking their lives?'

Shows how closely you've been following this. Scuds are not 'weapons of mass destruction' and though a few have I think been destroyed, it was well known Iraq had a few of these.

Iraq is allowed to posses conventional weapons that can travel up to 150km, that can ONLY take conventional warheads.

These scuds are capable of travelling of travellin in excess of 400km, AND have been modified so they can carry bio chem.

Our Dear Mr Blix said so himself.

Iraq also denied having any.

The UN report also said 9 were missing.

The UN report also said 15 bio chem warheads were missing.

Saddam is a liar.

People like you make me ashamed to be British frankly

It's leaving crackpot regimes to build weapons - as Iraq have done in the past and continued to through the past 12 years, breaking resolutions the agreed to - that gets you into wars. An example would be known as World War 2, it's people like you, who'd rather not get involved, rather not take a risk, that cause bigger things to happen.

What would you prefer Mr Bucky'o'hare? we keep up sanctions against Iraq kill a few hundred thousand more of Iraq's innocent civilians, and hope he doesn't suddenly turn up armed to the teeth? Or should we scrap sanctions and forget he exists? that seems to be what most of the anti-war bunch are advocating?

Couldnt have said it better myself!

I know that the sanctions and US/UK bombing over the last 12 years have killed far more Iraqis than Saddam has. Saddam is evil yes, but the way to deal with that is not to go in and make the Iraqis suffer further. As to taking risks, I think the real risk here is prodding an already volatile situation into chaos. Muslims all over the globe already resent the US, and this kind of action stands a strong chance of pushing people to violence. I guess you guys will all be happy when the war comes to you tho, and it's your children, wives, families etc being murdered in front of you.

Oh and Saddams regime controls food aid distribution, no wonder his people always appear loyal when on TV.

Protestors are complaining about Bush/Blair being nazi's/whatever, what about Saddam, he's not exactly Mr Innocent is he?

.Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!

I just got back from uni. Soap dodgers everywhere! Oxford road was gridlock as they marched down the road with protection from hundreds of polics officers on horseback and in vehicles. Most of them were of "asian origin" too . They were shouting this and that as they walked down the road holding up raffic causing massive tailbacks and congestion with no respect or decency!

i don't get you people, do you not realise the majority wants war. You think doing this ******** **** will help your cause you losers? No it just makes the life of the public hell. You are outnumbered, without good reason and a waste of my sodding time. Grow up, get a life and find better things to do with your time. We are at war now and a few whining little ******** will not change that, i'm sorry!

Maybe we should all have an ANTI SADAM, ANTI SOAP-DODGERS, ANTI IRAQ MARCH and hold up the traffic just to annoy people more, good idea eh? SMART ASSES!

Saddam has killed over 1 million of his own people and now you claim we have killed even more in the last 12 years, where do you get this rubbish

UN's own figures? Our sanctions have been responsible for many thousands of innocent deaths.

Aye.

However, say it in Baghdad, and yoy will have your tongue pulled out and left to bleed on the streets. Then, get fed into a plastic grinder.

The sanctions we kept in place for years didn't touch Saddam but they were responsible directly for killing many civilians.. nobody wants to hear this or acknowledge it but it's true. Look on google, there is a wealth of information on the subject.

Then blame Saddam for that, as he controls food aid distribution. Plenty to go around, except he's probably taken most of it.
