**Apple Media Event - September 12th **

sorry about all the n00b questions but how do pre orders work from the Apple store - can you reserve one in advance or is it first come first served?

Pre orders will almost definitely start about 2 hours after the media event finishes. The servers will be slammed though, so you'll probably be lucky to get your preorder in that evening.

Most times previously, I've just waiting until the next morning and preordered without any problems :)

Customer loyalty has long gone out of the window (unless you're on Orange I believe whom give quite good discounts)

We have had a small business account with orange for 11 years now and (whilst i admit it is likely different for normal accounts) if you don't accept the first offer they give you, then you can often get it a fair amount cheaper. I normally find that we don't end up paying for the handset if they perhaps ask ask £100 for it. We also got them to offer free iPhone insurance which is normally £12 a month with them.

Indeed, although the difference between nabbing one as soon as they become available and one the morning after can often be several days delay in it being delivered to your doorstep.

They've always had enough stock for immediate delivery when I've waited until the next morning - however, this is meant to be one of the biggest phone launches ever - so it may be different this time around :p

Guys, I am on a lovely monthly package with o2 and would prefer just to buy the handset from the Apple store on release. However with the new sim cards would o2 then provide me one? or would they force people to get a new contract?

Thanks

My partner moved from a 3 to a 4 and thus needed a microsim and o2 were pretty good about it :)
-edit-
with the 4 being from Apple sim free, obviously
-/edit-

Orange tried to charge family for the same though =/

When I bought my 4S off Apple.com, I had a 3GS that had gone from contract to Simplicity... there was a bit on the O2 site where you could request a microsim/number transfer to it. Came in the post pretty quick, synced the 4S so it had all my 3GS stuff on it, microsim in 4S, activated it, waited till it had transferred my number, lobbed sim, wiped 3GS, job done.

Er so am I reading this correct ? We are getting another new sim or do the micro ones work ?

New iPhone is rumored to use nano-sims, so it will require a new sim from your operator. Probably no chance of cutting them down yourself this time either as they are thinner too.

To all those discussing where to get micro/nano sims etc, why not just pick one up at the Apple store when you buy the phone. They just hand them out willy nilly no? It's where I got mine from!
