Incredibly scummy considering I had a "payment authorisation" yesterday and a "payment processed" today, yet nothing in stock. Unbelievable.

Indeed, incredibly scummy. You've got the power to refund now though so they won't be earning interest on your money. I know what I would do in your situation.

At the very least letting people know their position in the queue would be useful, as well as any rough indication of expected numbers based on past orders. If I'm number 4,003, and you're expecting batches of 50 every 2 weeks then at least I know that I'm better off getting a refund. If I'm 50th in line then at least I know where I stand. When I ordered it was still showing "expected 18th September", so if I'm looking at a few months until I get my card I'll go for a refund.
I have a BAD feeling the queue is messed up due to the numerous crashes and all sorts, I remember saying yesterday in an FB group I placed my order by 216 but had not received a confirmation (at the time, it came around 8pm) while others said they had a confirmation email having placed an order after 3pm, which makes me think and I hope I am wrong our orders are not in the queue we purchased them in, I am probably wrong, but it is a concern...

Is the website going to be prepared to handle the load for the 3090 release or is it going to be the same situation?

Impossible to update in that time to handle that type of load. You can't just add more servers and expect the web application to miraculously work better.

We need ques based on times at least, would be very much appreciated and make this less of a headache for everybody.

I hope that's not the case, but I can see the logic to your reasoning.

At least the system to take your money was working properly though!

I managed to get an order in with a competitor yesterday, but they don't have a forum so I'm going to whinge here based on the same principles... :p

Doing some v basic maths I've worked out that OCUK (and the other 'big' 2) must be sat on literally 10's of millions of pounds based 90%+ on pre-orders only. i.e. the products were not in stock at the time of order.

Most online retailers only take money on item dispatch. We obviously have the right to cancel the pre-order at any time and get our money back, and they are doing nothing 'illegal', but I'm wondering what happens to all this capital that's just floating around waiting to be realised. Is it 'invested' somewhere in the meantime? (which would be highly unethical, but not illegal)

Can any business nerds enlighten us?

Thanks for the info and answer @Gibbo

the only thing I’m a bit disappointed with is when I phoned yesterday I was told I was in the first ten for the MSI trio, when I phoned today to change the post code as it was incorrect the gentleman on the phone informed me there were thousands before me. When I questioned how I was told when I placed the order because the site was down orders were still being downloaded which is why I got bumped so far to the back. Bit disappointed but there are worse things going on in life.

will try for a 3090 next week and whichever comes first I’ll keep.

What time did you order go through at?

I'm hearing reports of people who paid via PayPal getting orders even though they pre-ordered after others, just because their payments were confirmed quicker. If true that is really not on. Can anyone clarify?

i just got off the phone @ocuk about 20 mins ago i canceled my zotac trinity 3080 order but i left the MSI gaming x 3080 trio order in place :D lol so that i would get it before cyberpunks release :) november, i bloody hope i get it before then
but im still going to order the 3090 on thursday mad dash for the FE edition on nvidia`s store but i can get that saying instock at 2.00pm and out of stock at 2.00.10spm then its a mad dash for for one at ocuk :D lol

You don't believe that do you?

No company sells anything at no profit. They would go bust over night.
And don't forget Caseking own ocuk..

And a £100 hike...pff they could have used a captcha to stop all the trouble yesterday.

Do I balls believe it :D

It's hilarious to think a retailer is saying "oh this cheaper model sold by the bucket loads" so the more expensive model is launching the week after... Hmm yeah all of a sudden we now can't afford to sell at RRP, that somehow translates to losing money so we need to sell at RRP plus extra £100. It's utter BS and makes zero sense lol.

Capitalism.

No....Every card said Pre-Order, regardless of an exact date and time, they all said Pre-order. OC' aint the bad guys to be fair, If you aren't happy, get a refund.
Taht's not how pre-orders work in 2020, payments are never processed until shipping. In my case payment was completed
