Ashes thread - England vs Australia * SPOILERS *

They didn't have the fight in them to get the result.
I watched the first 1/2 hour last night and although I thought we were far too defensive to Warne thought that the draw was inevitable.
All the talk was about how much this pitch would turn in the closing stages, so we decide to go with 1 (supposed) spinner.
We haven't got the firepower to bowl them out twice cheaply to win a test at the moment.
I suppose I should expect nothing else from us, back to the old days of batting collapses. :(
After this, I fear that McGraths 5-0 may not be such a pipe dream after all.

I don't even follow cricket closely, but I keep track of how England are doing.

I'm no expert but even I know that is an absolute embarassment, throwing away a match like that. Typical collapse. Its getting so old its not even funny anymore, that is if it ever was funny.. How did they not even draw that..

So. Happy. :)
I seriously thought this was going to end a draw, forgot to account for england's unique ability to completely fall apart. :)

this is amazing I dreamt last night an Australia win by bowling out england then posting 200 runs to take the test...I thought it was absurd and like all assumed to wake to the draw and am so happy to hear what happened (not an England fan in cricket)

Regardless of that...this whole country should be ashamed of what happened they just turned up on day 5 and decided to lay down and die.....well australia only need 1 win from the next 3...say goodbye to the ashes for another 15 years or so.

cricinfo.com headline sums it up

'feeble england ruin series'

i wanted a close one just like everyone but they seem determined to make it impossible for themselves.

Ah well, we'll win them back next year :p
Are we playing Australia again so soon? :p

What annoys me also is that it won't be on free-to-view television next time either thanks to the greed of the ECB. The Sky shilling doesn't seem to have made much difference on the pitch though does it

ROFL ROFL @ England...WTF were they playing at last night...completely got spanked yet again by the Aussies and Warney....

Another pathetic display by the English batters...fair enough Strauss shouldnt have been given out but hey you win some and lose some. What a terrible waste of a game, England had this game in the bag more or less and decided to self destruct as per usual. No sympathy from me for England, the way they play sometimes makes me wonder if half of those players should be on the field.

Oh well looks like the Aussies have well and truly spanked the English yet again and seems like last yrs ashes win was truly a fluke...business as usual for the Aussies. This match should have been a draw but noooo england go and truly mess it up for themselves. I still cant understand why the hell Panesar wasnt playing, FFS Fletcher you utter moron drop Giles...hes too much of a liability on the team...i have a feeling that not picking Panesar has some racist undertones to it...why would you give someone who hasnt played cricket for 12 mths the nod over someone who takes wickets and takes them very well:confused:...Strauss and Cook need to be dropped as well especiallu Cook, hes friggin useless as it is. Bell is a silly boy getting run out though, no doubt about it.
Warne as usual did his magic and completely bamboozled England...his wicket of Pietersen made me smile though...finally got one over on Pietersen :p. He may be old that Warne but boy can he still weave his magic.

Can England even come back after this??...hehe hell no unless your asking for miracles...well thats my opinion..still England have a very outside chance....they just need to win the last 3 tests...tall order indeed but not impossible...but i know where my money is going tho lol.

In fact England will retain the ashes if they win two and draw one of the remaining three. As the holders we only need a drawn series.

Not that I'm saying this is very likely of course :/

LOL highly unlikely that will happen though, cant see the Aussies settling for a draw..if anything it looks like they want to teach England a lesson for taking the Ashes off them last year. Seems like they are on par for that lesson being handed out. I think Flintoff is well out of his league with the captaincy...putting too much pressure on him even though hes bowled pretty well in this test and the last but his batting leaves a lot to be desired for tbh.

Oh well 9 days till the next test and i really do hope Panesar gets into the squad...i mean the worst that will happen is that they will lose or perhaps get a draw but FFS put the lad in!!! and see what he does...highly doubt it that he will get picked though..if i was panesar id be spitting blood or better still start playing for India against England lol :p.
