Ashes thread - England vs Australia * SPOILERS *

dont think il watch anymore of this series... umpiring has really went against england some awful calls. I wouldnt use that as the main excuse though. Batting has just been awful apart from a few good innings from Bell, Colly and KP. Jones has to go - big mistake here.

I wonder in 6 months time what the team will be like? Id say Vaughan will be back as captain, fletcher will be in a mental hospital and Jones will have taken up a new career in snooker.

Just totally fed up with the embarrassment of this woeful series. If there wasnt so much hype it might have been easier to take!

I was just reading the match report here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/6185175.stm

Has Rudi Koertzen got a bet on Australia or something? He seems to be giving Australia everything and England nothing - an inconsistent performance which should not be acceptable.

That is a bit harsh, you get some in your favour and sometimes you don't. Straus has had plenty in his favour before and he will get some rough ones as well. Last Ashes how many bad decisions did Warne get and England seemed to get everything in their favour but nobody accused the umpires then.

I really fail to see how some people can bemoan umpiring calls as a reason for us being 550 runs & 2 tests behind lets face facts we've been totally hammered!

Ok so Strauss has had a couple of bad decisions but in the first Aussie innings McGrath got given out to a ball which bounced off his arm and didn't touch his bat or gloves ok he's not a top order batsmen but the fact remains everyone gets the odd dodgy decision.

The only test out of these 3 we shouldn't have lost was Adelaide even then we'd have probably only got a draw. A combination of inept batting, inept bowling (in the first 2 tests especially), inept selection decisions and playing out of form & half fit players has cost any chance we had of getting anything out of this series.

Hmmm well watching the highlights just on skysports, im still absolutely gobsmacked at how Gilchrist just demolished Panesar...leading hitter of 6's in test cricket..amazing innings by him and showed he still gots what it takes.

Personally bad umpiring aside..i think England havent done themselves any favours..their batting has been dire to say the least..a lot of them are flopping hard except for Pietersen. Your fielding has been woeful and terrible...how many bloody catches have England missed out on??. Geraint Jones is a crap wicketkeeper...god knows why hes in there...so many mistakes in this ashes series. As for your bowling??, with the exception of Panesar...all of the bowlers have been utterly crap imho. As i said its true when they say England havent got bowlers who can get 20 wickets.

Tbh England have had 2 brilliant chances of getting back on even terms with the Aussies...the first was Adelaide...the game was there for the taking and now at Perth...you did awfully well to get the Aussies out for 244 but couldnt capitalise on it.

The way this series is going, its gonna be a 5-0 annilhilation and what an ass spanking its been so far. I was kinda hoping the Ashes would go on till after xmas but i have a feeling...tonight the Ashes will be coming home ie back to the Aussies. Id be very surprised if England can hold on for a draw..if they do then its a miracle.

Nobody should blame any bad decisions for us losing the Ashes, but our badly performing players, with a few exceptions, we've been pretty average.

As I said before it started, if we had a fully fit side, I still think we'd have retained them, but we just don't have the strength in depth that is needed.

As for saying that we're not capable of taking 20 wickets, the same line up that won us the Ashes in the first place is more than able.

As for the slating of Geraint Jones, what other wicketkeeper has proved himself a quality international batsman since Alec hung up his gloves, the answer, none and I don't think his keeping has been as bad as some have made out this series either.

Will I be staying up all night again, not a chance.

England are 99-1 at lunch so we are having a good day so far. Just another day and a half to bat for now ;)

I am hoping for a miracle but that's what it will need for us to draw the match. I've seen us reach 200+ for 1 before and then collapse shortly after. So there's a long long way to go yet.

261/5, Cook got his century but edged a Mcgrath one to Gilchrist. Hoggy bowled second ball, not a great idea sending out a nightwatchman in fading light against Mgrath but what do you expect from the England leadership .

I'd rather send Hoggy in than risking a recognised batsman, as he can be a stubborn so and so sometimes, although it made no difference in the end.

At times I actually started to believe  , when Bell and Cook were settled, then Cook and Pietersen, trust me, here's hoping for Freddie and Kev to finish it off for us tomorrow then. ;)

big kev you hoping for santa to come early. :D have heard storms are expected tommorrow.. probalably after england`s last wicket knowing our luck, god it was good to hear on radio how well we played today,up till tea. was cooking bbq then few wickets fell ,felt like diving in the pool.. temp ok.. 23c see what happens tomorrow.

England just lost another wicket (4.25 AM our time BST) - and are 346/9

Bet England start doing well in final 2 tests....when it doesn't really matter (playing for pride etc) - but wouldn't count on it.

Started off well before the tail gave in.

Geraint Jones, what a complete waste of space. Very soft dismissal, left his foot out of the crease while waiting for the result of an LBW appeal. Read isn't a world beater with the bat but he isn't going to be much worse, better keeper and all. 0 in warm up game and now a pair here for Jones, gotta go. Time to admit you got it wrong Fletcher and get Read back in the team.

I'd also look to shove Panesar up the order in the future looking how his batting is coming along, long term looks better than Harmison and Hoggard.

As Hussein has just said, Fletchers selections could not have been more wrong.

Teams for the 4th test?

Strauss
Cook
Bell
Collingwood
Pietersen
Flintoff
Read
Broad
Hoggard
Harmison
Panesar

Well done to the Aussies. Barring a few performances, England have been decidedly average. The selections were poor, letting Cooley go was tantamount to suicide so close to the last Ashes series and too many England players never looked like their heart was in it.

Seeing the celebrations after the match showed how much it meant to Australia and they are fully deserving of the win. Enjoy it while you can though; come 2009 your game winners will be drawing a pension and the Ashes will be back where they belong :)
