ASROCK 6900 XT NOW ONLY £689.99 (£649.99 FOR LOYAL FORUM MEMBERS)

Yes similar situation here re: the social aspect, group of us play Modern Warfare/Warzone together regularly so I'll look at what's best for that then. The 3080Ti is for sale at £600, so not a massive difference but not sure if it has any warranty remaining yet, and yes the games must be factored in as they're solid - really like the look of Callisto Protocol. Not overly fussed about RT so that's not a huge factor.

Just seen your edit - yes that's the one, awaiting a reply on the warranty situation.

I've also just managed to nab an ultrawide that I'm collecting on Weds, so would be good to get a card sorted pronto!

oh ive bought one, the fool that i am. my psu (evga 1000w gq) should be ok since i upgraded it last week so i could use the old psu in my other pc. not sure the gpu will fit in the 4000d case since my arctic freezer ii 360 is at the front and the card is 330mm long.

looking forward to having fun fitting it or buying a new case.

humm. I've been pondering on this card for a couple of days but I just spotted that Asrock recommend a 900W PSU. So I guess my Corsair RM850 is not really enough ? (3900XT CPU, 32GB, 4 x SSD & 1 x NVMe drive)

Now is always the best time to buy GPUs. IE last gen just before new gen. That's something I have always stuck to. Mostly because they are clearing the decks, and brand new releases always come at a huge premium. So the smart money buys now.
Not necessarily. The 7900 XTX should be around 66% faster than a £650 6900 XT. £650 x 1.66 is £1079. The 7900 XTX reference model is expected to be between £1000-£1100 at the current exchange rate, so performance per dollar should be very similar. The 7900 XTX should also be cheaper to run as it's more power efficient, and will have more features like AV1 encode.

Wallet thrashing vs mental hit of bad drivers.
Hmmm.

Can make money, can't fix mental health after a breakdown over drivers close to as easily, it sticks for much longer.
It's like your wife using £300 for a hand bag one month vs swallowing the junk of 20 men in 1 month, 1 hits a lot harder.

You can't get lost time back just as you can't get her loyalty back no matter how they market themselves.
Time to say goodbye to my 3070, 6900XT here I come!

1440P this thing is a beautiful step up and will last a long time.

2 free big incoming games sealed the deal.
Did you change your mind about AMD's drivers?

That's fine I guess if you can increase your budget by £400 then you'll get an upgrade but for those looking to spend around £650 I doubt you'll get anything much faster than a 6900XT with the new gen stuff like a 7800XT or 4070ti.

How can I change my mind? Never owned a 6K series.
5K no change.

I got one last week for my son. The recommended PSU is 850w. I have ordered one for myself which should be delivered today and I have a 750w platinum. You'll be fine

I am pretty sure PSU recommendations are higher than usual to account for people with lower quality units, with that being said I would feel a bit on edge with 650w PSU on my current setup, I run 1 high RPM Hdd, 5 SSD's and a bunch of peripherals.

850w for my use case makes sense, but 750w would likely be fine.

Does depend on CPU though, Ryzen 5000 series don't consume much.

What's the rest of your system though?

Hope that it is up-to-date enough to not bottleneck it.
upgraded the rest of the system just at the start of lockdown so I think there'll be a slight bottleneck with the CPU but can look at that later down the line.
MB: MPG X570
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
RAM: 32Gb DDR4 3200MHz (I'm sure)
Running an 850w PSU

I ran my 6900XT (PowerColor Red Devil) on a SFX 750W PSU and it was fine. They're just giving themselves some margin.

I think it should be fine.

Depending on the monitor you using, but I think any CPU bottleneck wouldn't be too significant or too noticeable until we are talking about over 100fps~120fps+ (or games/game engines that just have poor cores usage/light-threaded).
