Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Can't believe I'm saying this, given I've completed the game but I just worked out that the icon (that I thought was just a graphic) nexto the inventory loot bag is actually an active button that takes you to your engraving list/challenges :o All this time I've been pondering how to level up my engravings :o :o

I've been playing for days and only just noticed the ship has a weapon/gear storage locker up the front :rolleyes:

130 hours and game fully complete and all achievements earned and main progression at 100% :o Think I played it in a weird order, got the final cutscene of sorts mid way through main game!

With that said, pretty solid overall, world is beautiful, but largely empty IMO with abit too much copy and paste. Lacks the charm of Origin's IMO but suppose that is Ancient Egypt for you. Would have liked to see a longer main story also. Still they really did the ISU stuff well in this game.

Completely agree with MarkeR and his storyline play order. I went a different route but it doesn't make much of a difference overall.

1. Atlantis
2. Family
3. Cult

Yeah done this order too as I already had completed most the pre-req's for that first point before starting main missions proper. Last two were done side by side, kind of wish number 1 on your list was locked off or something until the other two were done or something.

Can't really bring myself to 100% (98% so far) this game. Post game completion it's just all cut and paste, which makes me sad as they could have really made a lot of use of the sheer amount of vacant space in the world. Odyssey just lacks something and unlike Origins I don't feel compelled to really explore the world because I know exactly what I'll come across - a cave, a temple, a camp, a fort, god forbid another sodding tomb, a city with statues/temples and the same npcs in it etc Their layouts are so similar.

The Mercenary system that has been broken since Lv5 for me would have been great if it actually worked but I have since been hunting them and I am No1, yet it all means very little. Post Origins completion I spent a ton of time in the Arena but even that in Odyssey is a shadow of its former self. I truly wish there was more Isu stuff because that has been superb in this game. Seeing future tech in the past has always been a thrill even though Kass doesn't really express much at the sight of it all.

I think I've played one too many 'Ubisoft generic open world' titles too close to each other and they feel so similar. FarCry 4 (March 2018), FarCry5 (release 2018), Origins (June 2018), and now Odyssey. I feel frustrated at a lot of things and find myself staring at RDR2 for a more varied open world experience except -

1. It's Rockstar, which means crap/clunky controls ala GTA.
2. I'd have to purchase it on the PS4 Pro, which means the wife hogs the TV during evenings when I do want to play.
3. Wish it was out on the PC already.

I'm beginning to get a bit of it bored now that the initial enjoyment of the location has worn off, most of the Islands and forts give you a sense of deja vu which does not help. Running out of arrows when trying to take out a higher level bounty hunter and then the relentless search for materials for more.
I've played 51 hours (27%) so far but not really pushed the main story recently so I guess I should continue that

The same thing happened with Origins and towards the end I ended up playing the game via WEMOD which gives you options to add resources, boost your ability points etc. Whether I can resist it for a few more days I don't know :p

For those of us who have an ultrawide monitor there's a simple fix to display cut scenes in 21:9 with no borders ;- **Works okay, I have had one problem where the screen after a cutscene borked and I had to alt-tab to fix**

just open assassins.exe with HxD ,
ctrl+f - click hex value- search all directions after 39 8E E3 3F
and change it to:
2560x1080 = 26 B4 17 40
3440x1440 = 8E E3 18 40
3840x1080 = 39 8E 63 40

)

Big update landing today. I don't think the 'Merc' bug is fixed from the looks of it so those with non aggressive mercs regardless of your bounty bar, may have to wait a while :/

I have recently noticed a bug with the explosive arrows, these appear with a flame even bigger than the fire arrows :confused: if you draw a full pull you catch fire, anyone else noticed this ?

I'll check this in a moment as I'm ingame with the new patch. This is my explosive arrows on full draw. I confess I don't use them for the most part so I never noticed the bug previously.

Can confirm that at Lv50 post game completion I have just been attacked by a merc in town with a 1 bar bounty level :o :D Edit: Make that three mercs :D

I'm currently at level 14 having met the Wolf and spent a lot of time exploring / grinding, and am struggling a bit with the Sparta / Athens thing. In Origins I felt like I wanted to clear out all the forts etc because those that were occupying them were oppressing the people so it seemed like the right thing to do. In Odyssey I have no affinity with either of the main factions so I feel reluctant to clear out sites occupied by either of the opposing forces in case at some point I'm forced / encouraged to pick a side, having up to that point spent my time decimating their forces. Does the main story encourage you to pick a side at any point or do you remain flitting between sides picking up missions from whoever is offering them regardless of whether they are wearing red or blue?

Completely understand where you're coming from and I agree. Just take your time regarding questing and don't bother with the radiant missions that are available on the town/city noticeboards - but do the daily missions that offer you that new blue ore.

You are a mercenary (Mistios) - no-one at all cares what side you're affiliated with period. Flit between either side for better rewards during conquest battles for example. It is a bit rubbish as it gives little meaning towards the systems at play. The main story as much as I recall doesn't really touch in on the conquest stuff at all so do as you please. You could murder an entire Spartan camp and then minutes after start a battle on Sparta's side and no one bats an eyelid.

My take on AC since Origins is to basically murder anyone in my path - everyone dies. I just don't care because the story doesn't at all.

Kainz hit it spot on. You have no affinity. In fact in the same region, can take it over with one faction, kill everyone and take it over with next faction in conquest battle and so on. Flipped some regions multiple times just to harvest weapons and no Talley is kept. A kind of shame really, would have been neat to have some affinity and have the game take a different path so as to have some more replayability.

I completely agree that it seems odd to have no affinity with either side. The real challenge can be not to massacre everyone and still complete your objectives which is suggested in one questline but I doubt is compulsory.

The patch notes suggest that they have taken onboard a lot of the suggestions eg about the cost of upgrading which is nice. Some quests have seemed a bit buggy for me but I have had nothing game-stopping, and there are so many more it isn't worth worrying about.

New large patch out 1.0.6. Includes first free DLC.

Also has made some nice changes, really loving the new detailed statistics page to understand all your modifiers and being able to automatically craft arrows if you have material is nice!

I've got an inventory crisis. I didn't know there was a limit but there is one of 350 items and I've got more epic junk than I need. I just don't know what to keep and what to sell or dismantle as just looking at the stats tells me I may need it should I switch builds in future.

The new quest isn't all that either. Should take about 15mins to complete. I think the best thing right now is that they've fixed mercs - I'm now being attacked by 3-4 mercs whilst in town at any one time and it's great fun!

I just sell it all. The legendary sets between them when you have em all have enough bonus’s and stat variations to make most builds you want and levelled up and makes game easy enough as it is. Few complete epic sets like the ones you get from the quests I keep, others I just sell ( why I now have millions of drachmas!) or store on the ship.

Yeah shame that end bit on the quest could have been done better.

This game is so insanely CPU hungry it is crazy. For fun I disabled hyperthreading so I have Ryzen 2700X with 8 cores and threads, and in the starting village the CPU gets hammered to all cores 100% at times. Ridiculously bad optimization for CPU.
