just load up an FPS game or something
I can't actually get to my computer at the moment (we have relatives staying in the room it's in) so I've got it connected to another one which can't really play anything due to having a crap graphics card. It can run the monitor at native though and it would be able to play the avi.
On further inspection there is something in the bottom right of the display which at first I thought was a dead pixel. In fact it isn't, it seems to be a scratch on the inside of the screen behind the LCD matrix. It covers about 4 pixels in a nearly horizontal line.
How can I tell it's behind the image? I made a white desktop image which simply surrounds the "dead pixel" in a 10px by 10px black single pixel width box. If you put your eyes dead on to the problem area, the "dead pixel" appears to be in the middle of the box. If you move your head, the "dead pixel" moves relative to the box. Further testing with other images reveals that all the pixels are in fact working, and that this is a backlight defect or a defect in the diffusor sheet between the backlight and the LCD matrix.
Solution: After phoning asus I've RMA'd the monitor, as this is
NOT a dead pixel. I'll be getting a straight replacement probably next business day (ie. monday).
However, I still have the monitor til at least Monday so if Devious gets the AVI back up then I can test it just for the interest of the rest of you.
