ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q 144hz 2560x1440 IPS G-Sync.

Hi guys,

So this is a very odd issue. i'm on my 3rd replacement. All was good apart from some really bad bleed which I seem to have fixed however there is one jarring issue.

The left side of the monitor seems to pulsate. What I mean by this is they go cold (look white), obviously its still displaying whatever color it is supposed to be but the pixels go cold, akin to how backlight bleed would make it look. The weird thing is this comes and goes (pulsates) every couple of seconds. It about 4-5 pixels wide at its worse and it is becoming very distracting. The monitor is good in every other way.

Just wondered if this is a faulty DP cable or something? Anyone had this before? I tried all frequencies down to 60hz and disabled g sync etc. I still have the pulsation. Never ever seen this before and I am really confused about it. Just wondered if anyone has ever seen this in the past?

You fixed the bleed yourself??

Not entirely but as someone else said on the forums, gently squeezing the area near it and just using it for a long amount of time seems to have reduced it.

I could really do with an answer on this pulsating issue though.

I don't have a backup monitor as that failed on me an di waited 3 weeks for my second replacement. If I did not buy the last one they had in stock i'd still be waiting for a 3rd replacement. So Ideally I don't want to have to send it back but i'm not accepting this issue on a £750 monitor.

Anyone gone from the pg278q to the new swift? Really considering this for the ips, something more reliable than my old swift. I will sell my acer predator, I dont plan to sell my old swift but i will keep it as a spare at the side incase. As Asus are not known for being fast on RMA.

Whats the TN to IPS like? never used an IPS before. Anyone noticed any input lag going from 1ms-4ms?

Would you say its a big improvement from the old swift, or I should stick with my old one?

If I were you I would read through owner's experiences here on OCUK and overclock.net, on their respective PG279Q threads, should give you a good idea ;)

Guess no one has an answer to my pulsating issue which now occurs on both sides, oh well guess i am returning the 3rd one under ccr as someone mentioned here. As by law I can return it within 14 days of receiving it and it obviously is not normal as the other 2 did not do it.. All I got overclockers telling me is you can not rma for backlight bleed, well 1 it is not backlight bleed. IT IS PULSATING THERE IS A GIANT DIFFERENCE. 2 I can CCR, 3 I actually stated not looking to RMA just yet wanted some troubleshooting advice.

All they seemed to care about is not giving me another replacement.

That pulsing thing happened to my TN Swift when it went faulty - is it less noticeable (but still happening at 60-120hz?).

To be honest no, I tried all frequencies down to 60 and even tried turning off g sync.

edit: Just double checked it, it is still the same at 60 100%.

All overlcockers response was that they don't rma back light bleed but this obviously isn't back light bleed... They seem quite happy to not have to deal with a 4th replacement.

The first one had dead pixels and dirt, the second one had a gigantic scratch and the 3rd one has this pulsing issue.

Anyone know when its likely to next be in stock?

NO COMPETITORS are expecting stock in 2 days so I would expect the same with OC. I'll be sending this one back and buying a 4th one. the annoying thing is i lose the delivery charge on refunds even with an RMA.... This monitor is borderline becoming more trouble than it is worth.

Warning the Quality Control is terrible on these. This one had a QC Checked yet has the pulsing issue!

Its sad that after all the issues with the PG278Q they didn't take the time to make sure they were ironed out for the PG279Q :S

Wish Samsung would hurry up and start making their own 2560x 120Hz panels even if I have to go without G-SYNC :S

You and me both. I'll be making sure I get my money back from overclockers as much as they would like for this pulsating not to be a issue. Hoping for more stock this week....

Such a joke as the monitor is insanely good, if only they had actual QC. They just shove the sticker on the box...

What's the IPS like as a whole? I'm looking to get this as soon as I can I think. Get rid of my 4k Acer that is just sat laying around at the minute not being used.

I have the old swift that I love, haven't had an issue with it. The new one is really leaning me over though. IPS would really help me, I do photo editing quite a bit now, also watch a lot of films at TV at a lower angle while laying in bed so would get rid of the annoying color shift. Then I can enjoy gaming more as well with the better IPS panel. There's no wonder I never have any money lol ;).

Also has speakers as well, that will make a big difference for me for my TV and movies as I use headphones which is a real pain. Haven't got round to buying any and rather put that towards the new swift now.

Yeah :( I really hated having to go without the Swift while I RMA'd it - after messing about with a lot of monitors its the perfect panel for my gaming system (when I had the XL2420T I only used it for gaming and swapped over to another panel for desktop stuff but with the Swift I only use another panel for colour critical stuff and movies).

I actually moved to IPS years ago and will never go back. Not for any screen I buy for anything. The color **** is around 180 degrees on IPS and given what you described you could really do with an IPS. If you get a good ASU SPG279Q (seems to be an insane lottery at the moment). Then it imo would be absolutely perfect for you.

High color accuracy 144hz, low input lag and G sync to boot. Yes it is a couple of MS slower than the TN, but in the real world you would not notice the difference too much. Playing AC Syndicate at an almost solid 60, compared to battle front which runs at 100+ it is quite blurry. Not as much as a standard IPS but still bad compared to a TN AT 60. However the trade off is more than worth it and that color shift you describe would pretty much be gone. With the photo editing it is a no brainer.

Thanks :), I'm set on it now. Just need to wait for stock which hopefully will be soon.

backlight bleed doesn't bother me as long as its not so bad it completely ruins the picture. As long as there are no dead pixels and no other picture issues I will be happy.

I dont mean to break up the party, but I wouldn't recommend doing any colour critical work on the PG279Q. I put mine next to my ProArt series monitor and I was shocked at just how yellow the whites were....not only that but many users have reported all kinds of anomaly's on their screen's aside from the usual glow and bleed issues.

Dont get me wrong, im going to try again with the PG as its a great gaming monitor, but "high colour accuracy" it isnt guys.

You just compared a pre-calibrated screen to a non calibrated screen. If you fancy comparing it might be better to do a like for like ?

I hear what you are saying, but I cant see's even after calibration that panel having very accurate whites. A lot of users (myself included) have found their panels had some weird gradient going on on the top part of the screen, areas where its brighter than others, and an assortment of other odditys.

I cant imagine any semi-professional or hobbyist needing colour accuracy would be able to rely on the PG279Q for productivity. What the PG279Q is however is a great step up from the 8Q with excellent viewing angles, punchy colours and of course the gaming features.
