My comparison of the PG279Q vs XB271HU:

very nice, acer looks like a winner there. The Asus appears to have a higher luminosity (potentially contrast ratio?) which is strange if they have the same panels
Going back again . Seems 2 pieces of dust has fallen from the top of the panel overnight. So there is 2 bits in the panel seen on any color apart from black. Not stuck or dead pixels either.
Doesnt really bother me too much but for £750 clearly shouldnt be there and could stick to my TN swift for the price.
This is my last one, sticking to my old TN Swift now.
I didn't get mine from OCUK but that does sound quite bad from OCUK. At the end of the day a fault is a fault no matter how many times you return items. Im 100% sticking to the TN swift now, I've had 2 TN swifts and not one of them had anything close to what these are like.
Yeah the colors are better with the IPS but with the cost of bad back light bleed. My TN swift is like a blackboard with no bleed at all. Mine unfortunately has a scratch on the screen (my fault), so I am going to get another and save myself £200 and a boat load of problems as I love my TN swift.
If I were you I'd seriously consider the TN swift or get one from where I got mine with a £20 screen check. No dust or pixel problems until today when some dust dropped down from the top.
The monitor lottery at the moment is ridiculous, I could build them in the sahara desert with better quality than what were currently seeing.
I just want to report some extremely POOR customer service from OVERCLOCKERS UK
So I ordered an ASUS PG279Q from them, and it arrived with dead pixels, a bezel not in properly and stuck pixels. I sent this back and told I would have one in 2 days. They ran out of stock and I waited a bit over 2 weeks from recollection. I then received a replacement after that period of time, to find it had a giant scratch on the screen… Which I am still do not understand to this day. I decided to send this one back and get another replacement. While doing that I noticed they would run out of stock again. So I made another order, now having 2, in the hope of getting one that does not have the now well known QC issues that these monitors tend to have, unfortunately my 3rd one also had 2 stuck pixels a bezel yet again not correctly in, a pulsing issue and some horrendous backlight bleed. I received the one from the new order and it had over 30 stuck pixels on it. I got this replaced making it my 5th monitor. The bezel is slightly not on correctly and there is a suck pixel or dust under the screen, it is a bit hard to tell, as well as some mild pulsing. I have decided I would probably keep this one, and decided to send my 3rd one back. While doing this I had a great pain in trying to get overclockers to accept it as apparently none of the order numbers they sent me matches up. After finally accepting they will RMA it, I received the following message.
Dear,
thank you for your webnote,
ok no
problem, i have found the order that is in question, however i have
looked through your order history and found that you have had a number
of these monitors and made returns for similar reasons.
With
this being the case, im informing you that this will be the last return
we are authorising for you on this product, as we feel the returns
procedure is being abused.
Please confirm a collection day and address which is best for you and we will proceed with RMA.
Regards,
Bearing in mind their website states that they have an OCUK guarantee of a new replacement with 1 faulty Pixel. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. THE MONITOR COST £750 IT SHOULD BE PERFECT AND NOW I AM BEING REFUSED ANYMORE REPLACEMENTS, CONTARY TO THEIR POLICY. They apparently check every RMA they receive for the fault. Every monitor I sent back and the one I intend to send back had GENUINE FAULTS, WHICH MUST HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED BY THEM BEFORE THE REFUND. NOW I AM BEING TOLD I HAVE ABUSED THEIR RETURNS POLICY… WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE A NEW REPLACEMENT WITH ONE STUCK PIXEL ON THE MONITOR. YET IF YOU ARE EXTREMELY UNLUCKY AND GET 5 FAULTY ONES IN A ROW YOU CAN GET STUFFED APPARENTLY. WHAT FANTASTIC SERVICE FROM OVERCLOCKERS, AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM NO LONGER. OR THE ASUS PG279Q WHICH HAS EXTREMELY POOR BUILD QUALITY, AND IS A LOTTERY IN GETTING A SERVICEABLE ONE. SO TO CLARIFY OVERCLOCKERS POLICY IS, HAVE A FAULTY PIXEL, NO PROBLEM, HAVE IT 5 TIMES TOUGH S***
Looks like I am stuck with Yet another monitor not fully up to scratch (close admittedly), DESPITE THEIR POLICY AND PAYING £750 FOR THE MONITOR.
I might just buy a cheap monitor and PULL CCR on their asses. THIS IS DIRTY PLAY BY OVERCLOCKERS
you have a forum account, use it constructively to get support. most of the staff dont read this section of the forums so wont know about your concerns even if you are typing in caps in this section.
as suggested, we have a customer service section on our forums. please use that to contact us. our returns manager will personally attend to your case and assist you.
Fair enough but we shouldn't have to post on the forum to get the CS experience OCUK is noted for. Seems like you can get stung if you don't use the forum.
I wouldn't say it was unlucky as they are that bad at the minute. You have to be lucky to get a half decent one.
And I agree, rightly so to be angry. Someone needs to tell Asus the garbage they are currently churning out.
I would seriously consider getting one where I got mine from and any future monitor for that matter, for additional £20 includes physical check and pixel/defects check with enhanced no dead pixel 7 day warranty. Mine was perfect until asus QC let it down as some dust fell down after the first day. Just bought another TN swift with the same service. Ips isn't my thing for gaming. IPS glow and blb just ruins my experience for dark games and movies in the dark. Non existant on the TN swift.
Overall I still love my 287q far more than the 279q.
I know it looks bad from your perspective but at the end of the day they have a right to protect their business and you can still take up replacements with Asus. I feel the guilty party here is Asus - they really need to get their act together over these monitors.
I'm awaiting a replacement from another retailer but to be honest am going to tell them to just give me a refund instead and wait for the XB271HU. There are so many issues with this monitor honestly I'm amazed they're still available for sale. However, please by mindful that Overclockers do have to protect themselves to a point - and will of course highlight the positives of any given product whilst downplaying the negatives. Really the fault here is with Asus - both their initial QC and their process for dealing with RMA'd units. Honestly I feel the best overall option for all would be for Overclockers to simply refund you and for you to avoid this monitor altogether.
It seems that there aren't enough of these monitors to meet demand (which is unreal, I guess people don't know how bad they are until they get one then check the forums etc) so Asus are simply sending out previous returns as new in order to meet the demand from the retailers.
I know Acer has similar issues with the XB270HU, but most of the XB271HUs seem solid. I've heard a few cases of dead pixels etc, but in each case the second monitor has been perfect. Compare that to the PG279Q, where most owners either go through many monitors before finding a good one or just give up.
