I finally got my board back yesterday, all fitted and working as it should.

I ended up ringing Asus for a tracking number and spoke to Jay, lucky I did as it was out for delivery and I was due to go out.

Considering two bank holidays thrown into the mix not a bad service from Asus really.

my new mobo arrived today, installed pc whilst watching united cruise to the european cup final.

my old mobo was picked up last thrusday morning so have been without a pc for a week, including the BH so not that bad.

currently running prime at stock speeds to make sure it is ok, however i was fairly relieved that a simple online click to activate windows, a few mins updating itsself and windows has carried on without a hitch.

just hope this board clocks at least as well as my last one.

edit.. I knew it was too good to be true.

so time to try to overclock

I pressed the auto overclock button which is a fairly safe over-clock facility provided by the mobo (and should not break anything certainly didnt on my old board....)

and not only did it only hit 4.2ghz (my old board was almost stable @4.7ghz, fully stable at 4.6ghz), windows hanged on boot up, and
corrupted some files, even At stock it wont boot now and it is unable to autorepair.

Joy! Its probably best doing a clean install of Windows anyway i guess, even though the board is the same model you can bet they've changed some of the components.
Might find it fixes my problems, sure hope so!!!.

Jay Palmer has been excellent... I decided to call them after not getting a response to my email and he sorted things out straight away on the phone. Motherboard collected yesterday, I was told I should get the replacement on Friday.

Don't know if I should be saying this or not but Jay told me not to bother including any of the accessories (I wasn't planning to remove the ASUS SATA cables I had already installed, but I had packaged up the rest of the unopened stuff) as replacements would be a new box anyway, so I took all the accessories out. Means when you sell it on you can basically sell it as an "as new" product, which is nice.

How do you get through to Jay? Just tried and i have no idea which menu options to choose. Ended up with normal support who were no help what so ever.
Sales -> Components, then I just asked for him by name.

The indian call centre (Technical Support) were unsurprisingly completely useless.

Thanks mate, will try and get through in a bit.

Edit: Just spoke to Jay who was very helpful, he is arranging a collection for tomorrow so i should have my new board by Tuesday :D

I tend to look upon Asus in a similar vein as I do Microsoft.

They may not get something right the first time, but they will usually spend time and money on it until they do.

In the case of Sandy Bridge motherboards, I am sure the problems are nothng that a few BIOS updates won't fix... I certainly hope that will be the case anyway!:)

Bit OT I know, but we have had 7-8 BIOS updates already ;)

My pc is down at the moment anyway so would like to swap the motherboard now.
What's the number for asus so I can speek to jay?
I would look myself but I'm writing this off a mobile phone and I'm struggling to view some websites.

Thanks

do the b3 revisions still have the same problems as previous motherboards?

im not talking about the sata ports either, my mobo sometimes needs to be restarted 50 times (no exaggeration) before it boots into bios or windows. its such a problem, i have left it on for 2 weeks now, dont bother to switch it off now.

bios latest and cmos reset.

cpu @ stock and ram @ stock.

Finally sent mine off other tuesday, rang about 1 in afternoon and UPS said they would pick up same day which i was surprised about (Anytime from 1pm till 7 at night)
Arrived back mid morning thursday, so lightening quick from UPS!
Impressed, if only asus were this good!

Give credit where it is due!

If Asus received your board on the Wednesday, despatched the B3 version on the same day, so that you received it on the Thursday, then they couldn't do much better than that!

Of course they were quick getting it out, but took forever to actually get the postage label and then no plans announced to upgrade to Z like gigabyte was what i was reffering too :p

if you have 1600 mhz ram try setting to 1866 mhz it worked for me..

you want me to overclock my ram?

how is that possibly going to help, im already undervolting it and slackening timings.

its supposed to be 1.65v and 8-8-8-24, im running at suggested 1.55v and 9-9-9-24

i reckon overclocking it will only bring further problems, im pretty sure its the motherboard, not the ram, the ram runs at 1300mhz too, ive had to set it to 1600mhz manually, i doubt it could take 1866mhz,

Got mono stripped out ready for pick up tomorrow. How did you pack yours?
I don't have a spare box lying around, so I was just thinking of putting the board in its original box and taping it shut.
Is that ok? I'll have to put the sticker and my details on the box as well.

It is a good idea to use the original box, but you don't have to send back the cables or anything... just the board itself.

Might be best to then put the box in a plastic bag or something (I used an old Amazon box!) ... you could probably even use a bin liner or something like that!
