AVATAR: FRONTIERS OF PANDORA

So far though, first impressions are good, done 2 hours, graphics are gorgeous all maxed out in 4k. Gameplay mechanics feel like some sort of cross between Division, Assassins Creed and Far Cry. I really like the way it auto hides your HUD so that you can feel the full effect of the graphics, Snowdrop engine continuing to be one of my favourite engines, cant wait to see what they do with Snowdrop in The Division 3

I understand FSR to be AMD resolution scaling like DLSS, making 1080p look like 4k. The bias option will lean towards 4k more so use depending on GPU.
Frame Gen is indeed epic for AMD cards (finally), I presume like DLSS Frame Gen.
Looks like another game AMD have had their fingers in where DLSS Frame Gen is waiting an update.
Although if you have a 4090 you can say something like Ivan Drago would: I defeat all card.

What's your fps like? I'm sure @mrk was teetering around 60 on a 4090 maxed out and that wasn't at 4k.

? I'm at over 100fps

Using DLSS Performance is excellent at 4K+ resolutions as Digital Foundry have shown in recent times (it's nearly the same render res as DLSS Quality at 1440p) - Nevertheless, Performance DLSS has come a long way. Getting 75fps+ (90fps average, ~110fps peak) on a 4090 on the Ultra preset. It drops to 55fps on the Unobtanium preset though - Once a DLSS Frame Gen mod comes out, we should be seeing over 100fps at all times on a 4090 on the Unobtanium preset lol.

If yours was dropping to 55 with DLSS then there is no way a 4070 is maintaining 60fps at 4k.

Yeah that's the Unobtainium preset which is not fully optimised as found by reviewers and us gamers alike with GFX settings being outright broken where some settings look better on high than higher.

The ultra and Unobtainium mix is what I'm using my custom range after seeing the digital foundry video which gives me over 100fps and looks the same.

AHH ok. When Tombstone said maxed out I thought that meant maxed out i.e using all unobtanium. Words are important.

So a bit like Hogwarts where it had a similar issue with the ultra/high settings.

Stunning game. Warmed up my gaming room a fair bit after a few hours of play.

The bow could feel a bit better, but the movement is great. It’s basically a modernised sci-fi Farcry Primal and I absolutely loved that game.

No definitely not unobtanium, I mean maxed out as in maxed out within the game , without using dev tools to get options which arent in the "normal" game

Getting into this now and it’s confirming my PC upgrade decision, partly because it’s stunning with a high frame rate and partly because I can’t get on with most shooter games on a controller.

This is my next game on my growing list of games to play. If only I had more time! Should run ok on my 7900XTX @ 4k.

Some of the combat when trying to secure RDA drilling sites etc can be really ruthless and challenging, even if you set an easier difficulty level the tediousness and sheer gunpower of even a solo puny human RDA with an assault rifle will slam down your perked up health rather quickly unless you are on the ball.

Here's a bit of quick action of me swooping in on the Ikran and making an attempt at securing one site before calling it an evening

This is what I like about it, the gunplay is solid and the mechanics are all excellent. The bits I find tedious are flying half way across the massive map to power down or up some terminals, and also the SID hacking just takes too long to even auto-hack with G, I'd rather it just skip all that and just insta-hack so I can continue on with the quest.

Still, a great action packed experience for sure.

I've had one crash to desktop so far and that was only when trying to fast travel back to camp this evening. One CTD after 26 hours of playtime is OK.

Edit* Forgot to mention that when flying, there is some noticeable asset pop-in, even on the maximum draw distance. This is rather annoying at times when you see stuff magically appear as you get closer lol.

Just the last 15 minutes or so to go of the main story.

Visually the best game I’ve played along with a true to form environment, along with the audio that really reveals the strengths of an open headset and soundstage. It can be quite tough at times and levelling only makes you a little more powerful; gear seems to give you most of your strength. It’s a little grindy true to Ubisoft games, but at least they’ve varied the grind a little. I’d say the Ikran reveals some of the games weaknesses and for me was when the game got a bit worse. It’s glorious on foot and through the forest, but the visuals reduce a bit with the ikran with a lot of pop in, reduced textures and the game constantly slowing down your flight while it’s loading behind the scenes. They’ve also taken a lot from the Horizon series, but haven’t implemented it as well. Still enjoyed it though and will no doubt do some more side content before putting it down.

A solid 8/10 from me.

Just over half the main story into this now. Graphically it's by far the best I've seen, it's stunning maxed out, the story is an utter snooze fest though.

Very tiring having to go see someone, listen to some poor voice acting and have them tell me to see someone else, then someone else, oh, more RDA, rinse and repeat.
