Baldur's Gate 3

Sounds like a decent game but never really been into this type of RPG, and it sounds like a massive time sink...

There comes a point where you have ask yourself if you have time to play this....and the answer is no. lol :)

I’m loving some of the little details interactions and areas you find when you explore. Found a place that I would have missed had I opted to just head straight for the objective. Instead I ended up in a “what’s down this track” moment and found an Inn with a very strange innkeeper. No spoilers there because saying there’s an Inn in an RPG is like saying Call of Duty has guns. Easily one of the most memorable interactions I have had in any game.

It’s also quite refreshing that sometimes the “morally” correct choice can lead to sometimes worse consequences for almost everyone involved. It really is true that “losing” the roll if the dice does not always lead to a worse or bad outcome. Even when it is objectively worse it leads to a very different series of events you may have missed.

GOTY, I don’t know because sometimes the combat can be janky and boring. Bit the story telling is top notch.

Fair enough. It will take many dozens of hours to complete this game, so I understand why some folk feel put off.

It's basically worth going everywhere and exploring every part of the map, as there is always something worth exploring!

Means I never feel lost as if I can see unexplored map I know I can go there and find gear/xp/events.

Camera angles annoy me. Some times I wont to look up the stairs/cliff, not at the floor.
The first mod to "fix"this has been released on Nexus/GitHub. Warning it is a .exe for those not happy with d/l such things. You also may need to update windows desktop runtime (55MB)

Works for me with no noticable performance hit. Note it is the alpha release so controller support isnt great.

really loving this game now. I couldnt really get on with it in early access but totally into it now. Just finished off wiping out the goblin camp and freed Halsin. I've ditched Astarion and Lae'Zel for now and going with Wyll and Karlach instead. They seem to have some rapport between them :) Not sure how i will get on without a good rogue though, Astarion would go through locked items like a knife through butter. It would be nice to have a 5 person group instead of 4. I'd like a bard too but no room!
Just bought a new monitor too, so looking forward to going up to 27" this week! No desk space for a 32 :(

For someone who loved dragon age origins, is this a game for me?

Not played the first one, from what I’ve seen looks good.

Controller only though
Biggest difference is the turn based combat in BG3. Which you may or may not be ok with. What you could maybe do is get it on steam and refund it before the 2 hours is up if you dont like it. Now, it is an extremely deep game and in only 2 hours you can barely scratch the surface so its debatable whether 2 hours is enough time to really tell if you like it but it will at least give you some sort of (very) rough idea.

However, you can easily spend 2 hours just making a character so if you are just checking the game out, I'd recommend not spending too much time on character creation or you will use up a big chunk of your 2 hours and end up not being able to refund it if you dont gel with it. Just take defaults on stuff, get in game asap, scracth the surface and if you decide to stick with it you can then restart and do the character creation properly.

I dont play on controller so I've no idea what its like on that.

Strong chance you will like it. Can't comment on how it plays with a controller as I haven't tried. But inventory management, movement etc can be a bit finicky even with M&K, but that's par for course with these type of games including DAO.

Question, does being proficient in martial weapons mean it is a singular ability covering all weapons in the martial list? So levelling up the proficiency means you do not need to select a particular weapon, you will just be great in all of them?

I ask because I was considering a Githyanki barbarian, but that race already comes with martial weapon proficiency. The race however comes with a natural proficiency with great swords.

Yup, martial proficiency covers all weapons except a few exotic types.

I think it was 2 where if you chose katanas it warned you there were very few in the game. Think there were only about 3 or 4 magical ones.

My only criticism of the game so far is a lack of colour blind mode. being red/green colour blind I can struggle to see the sight cone of mobs when crouched. If there is a colour blind mode in the game I can't see it. It's probably red text on a green background.

Can you still level up specific weapons further over others?
Edit: Answered my own question. Race weapon bonuses are irrelevant on classes which already come with martial weapon proficiency, what a waste.

GOG do a 30 day refund policy - that said I've not ever used it so YMMV.
