Baldur's Gate 3

See thats what I mean, I merely answered your question as to why some people are saying its woke, by giving you some possible reasons and your reply is to then immediately try to "counter" those reasons, thus immediately taking up a contrary adversarial stance against what was nothing more than a list of possible reasons why someone would say its woke. That to me only reaffirms that you shouldnt play it.

However, to answer your last paragraph there, yes, its people just being petty/making too much of it.

I still dont think you should play it though, its not like you MUST play it, I think it will not be something you enjoy and you will indeed just end up "putting that sort of time in then want to uninstall it/be angry with it/wasted money", so I'm just trying to save you that time/money
It came across like you were saying those were my reasons, so I was merely answering if that was the case on those points/wether I agreed.

I'm very open to playing new games, hence why I was asking, and I often don't even read what people say/take it seriously, but that did sound very off putting as usually people play something for a small amount of time and know it's not for them, so if they got that far in, then got very anti it, it did raise alarm bells? See my point?

You're the one telling a group of us that "everyone" says this game is woke, you tell us what you've seen.

But yes that would be my best guess. People are choosing the wrong options and having a hissy fit that the game is throwing somrthing at them they aren't comfortable with. There's certainly nothing woke about the plot itself, your race, sexuality doesn't matter an iota to that, and I'm struggling to think of any secondary quest where you could cry about wokeness unless we're all the way to characters having the chance to say slavery is bad in the underdark is woke.
Everyone aside from an obvious thread of love for it that could be biased, yes.

So they must be just butt-hurt about the sexuality based stuff? So can you mess up and give the wrong impression of your character and attract the wrong sexual preference? I.e. operator error by the player? If so then that's their fault isn't it.

As I've now said twice that would be my guess. But at this point it's pretty obvious you're just looking for a bite so I'm done with this.

Play the game, don't play the game, it makes no mind to me, and frankly if you're that worried that it would actually make you angry remember to check under your bed for the woke boogeyman.

I didnt say they were your reasons, as I say I merely gave reasons why people might say that, never mentioned you in the list.

It can easily take 1 hour just to make a character in BG3, so if you consider a 2 hour refund window then a lot of people will have already used half that time before they've even got in game, I guess that means that a person might only have 1 hour of gametime before they are beyond being able to refund it.

I'm nearing the end and I've not seen anything I'd consider woke (not that I would get my knickers in a twist if I did see something woke anyway, I'm not that flimsy) but I havent really delved into any of the romance options as romance wouldnt fit the roleplay of my character. There are some characters who are rather liberal with their sexual choices and would pretty much bang anything, same sex or not. Is that woke? No idea really, I havent met any elves or vampyres or other such things so I couldnt comment on the accuracy of its sexual depiction, though I do recall that Dracula (and to a lesser degree vampyres in general) are usually described as being hedonistic in the extreme so I guess any-sex relations would make sense for vampyres.

I'm just confirming that's what you meant mate. If that's the case I'd have no issue with playing it, I just want to know it's obviously that and they should have paid more attention when choosing their path?

The game gives you a lot of choice, and that includes the characters/interactions.

Don't like a particular character? you don't need to have them in the party or your camp at all, you can just not recruit them.

Don't want to romance a particular character? you can shut them down if they approach you and that seems to be what they're getting at.

I'd say more importantly than any woke or not woke issues, you have to like the combat side. The combat is a big part of the game, unless you simply try and talk your way out of most fights (you can for some) combat is inevitable.

Ah ok my bad man.

Can it? See I don't get that personally, same as any rpg, it just seems such a waste of time, and very Narcissistic to spend hours creating a character, especially if you're playing in an FPS option game like fallout/skyrim haha.

So when you keep coming back to these romance options, they're not force upon you, they're merely side quest type bonuses per say? So nothings forced into the main plot to make it side with X or Y woke'ness, cool, then yeah it sounds like people are being selectively moany as with TLOU and Horizon!

Cheers for clearing that up!

Ahhh, see this is EXACTLY the kind of answer/explanation I was after having no experience with the series!
Cheers mate!

Yeah it can, cant remember the stats but Larian did give out 1st weekend stats and it showed that A LOT of people took over an hour to make their characters, theres a lot to consider stat and skill wise in your character build. Its a very slow, turn based game where your stats and abilities make a big difference on what you can do and how you approach situations, so it pays to take time thinking it through. Its 100% not like a fallout/skyrim or any other FPS/TPS sort of RPG. Its much more of a "hardcore" pen and paper style RPG.

Ah damn I didn't know it was turn based, damnnnn. I was THIS close as well! I didn't mind older FF's back in the day, but I've grown to like Fallout etc these days and how that works with stats etc, so it probably would feel a bit "taking me out of the game" these days to do turn based, vs it being based on my timing of the buttons/aim etc... Thanks for that man, that would have been a very unwanted surprise/wallet damaging haha!

No worries, a lot of people in the thread would say I'm a bit of a shill for the game, its almost certain to be my GOTY after all, one of the best games that I've played for years , but even though I rate the game that highly I do my best not to just push everyone to play it, especially if my intuition makes me think that they arent going to like it and will be wasting their time/money because of the lure of the FOMO beast :)

Nah tbf once I realized you weren't scapegoating me into the general population of haters, you made perfect sense mate.
I am a bit of a scumbag though, I have been playing HL Alyx with the No VR mod hahaha

It's turn based but not in the same way as older FF games really, have a look at some of the basics of combats for it on Youtube or something.

There is skill to the combat, successfully ambushing can make the difference between victory and defeat. Character positioning as well as using terrain and abilities properly also does matter.

I think it's my GOTY for 2023 as well to be honest, but I have always been a sucker for good fantasy games and turn based combat.

Games like Triangle Strategy (tactical), Octopath Traveller (class turn-based), and Diofield Chronicle (hybrid turn based/real time).

For some reason I can't get on with games like X-Com though!

I don't care about "woke" stuff anyway, it literally doesn't bother me if LGBTQ+ people start to have the same representation I've enjoyed for my whole life.

But there was one thing (that was patched recently) where a line of dialogue made it unclear you would be romancing Gale (male wizard) - I got caught out by it, but still managed to get out of the actual romance after.
