Whether you love her or loathe her, she was a prominent and strong Prime Minister, she did what she thought was best for the Country and whether that was right or wrong or a mixture of both is immaterial and a question for historians and political analysts....what she and more importantly her surviving family, like anyone here deserves is a modicum of restraint and respect for just a short time during the mourning period.

Things like street parties and so on are crass and uncalled for and it brings shame on us as a nation in my opinion.

Do you know his parents and what they went through when he was a kid ?

Just saying, is it not a parents responsibility to give their children the nutrition required for growing and not the schools/government?

Unless his parents were so poor they could not afford milk and this poverty was due to something thatcher did then I guess my point is invalid and a bit insensitive.

I have been watching TV today and was amazed at the coverage of Thatcher. There was no mention of the destruction of our manufacturing base as a result of the untested policy of monetarism, the closure of the pits were blamed on Scargill.
I was one of the "price worth paying" and I can remember reading about people committing suicide because of unemployment. As a backdrop we watched our national industries and utilities sold off so that the grasping middle classes could make a quick buck. We, of course were unable to take advantage of this as we were unemployed.
I believe that virtually all of the UK's current problems stem from Thatcher, from the banking crisis (the Big Bang) to the excessive bills of the privatised utilities.

Yawn...........
So ONE of their OWN has died.....
God luck.........
Let us mortals know how it's up there???
Have you got your own council bought house???

RIP, the only true politician we have had since Churchill with a pair of balls.

Now we have identikit politicians.

And for the "Up North" mining moaners, blame Scargill, he killed your industry, and they weren't proper mines anyway. Try a bit of Tin mining.

If the mines couldn't sustain them self's along with ship building then close them down, but give the people some other form of work, she didn't as she obviously hated miners..

If she was running the country today she'd cut everything tomorrow, nhs, welfare, get rid of subsidized companies like nissan, she'd pull out of europe and let the whole of the north go on a rampage all the way to london, thats if its still there after Ireland bomb the **** out of it..

And why not?

RIP Maggie. (The first and last proper peacetime PM this country had in living memory).

Oh really

Hardly surprising. Stupidity kills.

Why?

British irreverent humour. Like playing Monty Python at a funeral.

Everytime someone famous dies there are jokes based on the life and death of that person, it doesn't make anyone disturbed, it is just black humour, that is all.

Too much respect for someone who really doesn't deserve it.

People earn respect, Amy Winehouse did little or nothing to earn respect in life, I find it very difficult to give her any simply because she died.

Great restraint show by yourself there.

DuncanP, there is no point arguing with someone so entrenched in such ingnorant bitterness.
All I will say is, imagine (if you can remember) the country in the late '70's. We'd already gone cap in hand to the IMF and you want more of the same?
So many people these days hate Thatcher because it's what they think they should do. She won three elections for a reason though. ;)
