Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I can't wait for this. It's either going to be amazing or utter crud. Either way, I'm hyped.

It'll be good to get a feel for what the DC movie universe is going to be like, with the future of so many projects relying on the success of Batman vs Superman.

For those of you who are interested in Batman I recommend watching the Dark knight returns part 2.

It is pretty much based on this movie and it's a good watch. I would however recommend watching part 1, it's not as good as part 2 but its a good build up up to it.

Dark Knight Returns (the movie) is a shot for shot animation of the original DKR comic book. The Batman Vs Superman movie is a new thing that takes a lot of inspiration and ideas from the original DKR comic book, but does not follow that story.

Looking at a trailer.

Is it me or does it look like Lex somehow gets control over Superman, setting up his own "Superman Military" and has him go after Batman?

I've said since day 1 that I think Lex will manipulate things behind the scenes to force a face off with bats and supes. Most likely BM/BW will get the kryptonite, artificial or otherwise from Luthor. They're both billionaires so it makes sense they'd have run ins and dealings with each other already.

The Bat/Sups thing has always been an ideological difference in terms of how each of them views justice, law and order and goes about exacting it. Justice League wise they've varied from frenemies to agreeing to disagree and having varying levels of respect/friendship depending on the writer.

Also..Snyder must be holding a big "up yours" to those that couldn't make sense of why the first one had so much destruction.

Just also that scene in the trailer where Sups looks a bit different and Lex is holding his hand around him as he looks like hes bowing.

I watched the new trailer last night and it seemed like Bruce Wayne becomes Batman because of a Superman incident. I'm not sure I like that one bit. Must re-check trailer.

Edit: unless his employees are his family. Still not sure.

This Batman has been Batman for quite some time, but until the events of Man of Steel is in retirement.

The Suicide Movie has (we presume) flashback scenes of Batman vs The Joker (who is most likely the big bad of SS movie).
Then the suit with 'jokes on you' written on is most likely the reason Batman had retired - IE the Joker killing that version of Robin (Jason Todd).

So the Batman we will see in Batman Vs Superman is basically one who's been there, done that for 20 years and eventually just cracked. However, it seems like Supermans fight with Zod and subsequent events brings him out of retirement in a really cheesed off mood.

The way the trailer is cut is probably somewhat misleading though. IE when batman grapple hooks away from the laser blast - I don't believe that is from Superman. (Doomsday? :D - something possibly escaped from Lexcorp in the trailer)

Also, I don't read the comics but I heard that Superman has just been heavily nerfed in the recent ones?
It makes sense to help even the playing field a little. Of course, if Superman wanted to win he could just throw the moon at the earth or something. lol.

may I recommend:

I was 'ok' with Man of Steel.

I am pretty excited about this on the back of this trailer. Seems a pretty good premise*

I am not up to speed with the comic book lore, but as far as I am concerned Kryptonite is the only way to beat Superman....so it has to rear its head in the movie right to stop Batman being a whipping boy?

*Unfortunately I was also excited about Terminator Genisys and that turned out to be a huge steaming pile.

Superman is highly vulnerable to magic - he's also pretty much powerless under a red sun. He's not a big fan of sonic attacks and can still be knocked about by concussive force.

Ultimately Superman's biggest weakness is that he is a good person - comic Bats would quite happily drop Lois off a building as a distraction.

Kryptonite is familiar enough to the non-comic readers that it's not a surprise it's in there. It may well be so they can go down the comic route again, and have Superman give Batman a piece of it, so that if he ever needs to use it against Superman, he can do.

Not sure if this is the thread but The Killing Joke has been confirmed to be getting the animated treatment (ala DKR) and Mark Hamill has been signed up to voice the Joker - which is awesome, just need Kevin Conroy to get the batman gig now and I can die happy :D

Now you've mentioned that, I think I recall hearing something about his plans for a Justice League film. You're right though, it can't be any worse than MoS.
