Lets hope so,

As thats not enough of a gain in my book?

£150 and you get a current next gen card, DX10, No SLI issues, Future performance gains, Resaleability ...... Sound like a good deal to me.

That Alan Wake shot is real, but its on a quad core CPU, the water one on FSX is as said, an impression, and the UT one is an ancient DX9 one, and everyones gona lash out £500+ on a G80 after seeing em. :D

I'm sure there will be plenty of benchmarks comparisons in the forthcoming months.. both online and in publications.

LOL! I meant the physical dimnsions :p I wanted to know how much longer it is than a 7900GTX/X1900XT

Kinda worrying that there are no 'real screenshots' of what DX10 cards are producing. Listening to a podcast with the microsoft DX10 team the other day, the interviewer asked about the Crysis Screenshots, they replied that they were all DX9 or rendered as the devs have no DX10 hardware yet.

So in the words of Blackadder '.....

Percy - It is said that the Enfantas eyes are bluer than the famous Blue Stone of Galveston
Blackadder - Percy have you ever seen the Blue Stone of Galveston ?
Percy - No my Lord, but they say it is very blue
Blackadder - So Percy what you are telling me is that something that you have never seen is slightly bluer than something else that you have never seen....

All this hype about DX10 and how amazing games like Crysis are going to be, yet no one has really actually seen any 'real' DX10 output. That is an awful lot of money to shell out on a graphics card when you have no idea what the output actually looks like!

I'm amazed people are disappointed that a single card is going to be giving the performance of 2 current top cards and thats with immature drivers. Were people expecting it to be much faster than a current SLI or CF setup?

Blimey we just expect too much nowadays, even from a next gen release.
I think what people are peeved about is that these are going to be stupidly expensive for a little while and for prices of £400-£500 you expect something with at least a 1/3rd performance increase over what you have.

Easyrider is lucky because he has the step-up programme, but can you imagine someone who didn't going from a 7950GX2 to an 8800GTX? They would be gutted beyond belief. Easyrider already said he wouldn't touch one of these if it wasn't working out cheaper for him.

I will probably wait until there 6 month refresh of the product, which I hope will provide the opportunity for the core chip to be manufactured on a smaller process.

(NOTE - Note sure what the next step down is for Nvidia ... 65 or 80 nm)

Which will "hopefully" reduce the power requirements and heat produced. Though if I wait for the generation after that, it will more transistors and speed so we will be back where we started.

Whats the proposed power draw on these beasts ?

Its the one thing I resent, having to consider a new power supply, up from the 530W antec Neopower I already have. (Though if I am wrong I will be happy).

I will need something big like this to power the Benq FP241WZ I intend to get.

Yeah I mentioned in the other G80 thread that I would not be upgrading but I will because of the setup. ;)

That's my plan, and it's a good one. Gives the manufacturers plenty of time to work out bugs and improve new drivers, and on the plus side the refresh of G80 will supposedly be 80nm but that is just a rumour. Hopefully a true one though.

Any ASUS 680i boards on launch day, seem strange to hard launch a motherboard. Usually the manufacturer paper launches then a month or so later stock appears.

Hi There

450FSB with ease claimed by NV! :)

Very nice. If they can do that out of the box I think Nvidia could be on to a winner.

Do you know which manufactures will have boards available on the 8th to buy?

Hi there

I believe things are changing. As only EVGA are launching the NF 680 board in the UK and BFG in the US.

Think NVIDIA are now giving more support to manufacturers who give customers better support. Asus are very big but their support is criminal its so bad. EVGA and BFG are in a different leage and their boards should also be very nice afterall they are not mass production but just building exclusive high-end OC friendly boards. :) However they aint cheap either, NVIDIA like charging big $$$$$$$

BFG 7950 GX2 is £387, so your saying £150 more on that for a G80, £540 no thanks, no thanks at all. :D :D
Aye. I definitely know which card I would be buying if I was in the market to spend that much on graphics, and it would be the 7950GX2 by a nautical mile from the benchmarks I've seen.

You're looking at £150+ for one or two thousand points in 3D Mark '06 and some DirectX 10 features you can only use in a couple of games, and even then only if you buy Vista. Just not worth it to me unless you already have an eVGA 7950GX2 like easyrider and can part-exchange for £150+ all in.

This is what happens when hype exceeds logic.
