right... any advice on wheels? what hub have you got that is compatible with both?

here is my selection: see what you think:

Selected Items Any Additional Charges
Da Bomb HeadSpin Front Hub QR or 20mm 32h Black Qr Or 20mm 6-Bolt
£0.00
Atomlab G.I. Rim 32h XTR Grey 26 inch
£10.00
DT Swiss Spokes Champion Stainless PG Black 2mm
£2.50
Velox Rim Tape Cloth 16mm
£2.00
Selected Package Price
£79.49

is that a good price? and setup?

Dont know how good the da bomb hub is and i havent came across the GI rim in my travels. This would be my combo.

Hope Pro 2 Disc Front 20mm Black 32h £0.00

Mavic EX721 32h Black £10.00

DT Swiss Spokes Competition Stainless DB Black 2mm-1.8mm £5.00

Velox Rim Tape Cloth 22mm £2.00

Selected Package Price £86.99

721 rims are pretty **** hot, basically a 729 with a squarer profile and is ,arugably, stronger than the 729 because of the square edge.

Pro2 hubs are well rated, some people complain of bearings failing quickly but on the whole its a good hub and the converters are easy enough to come by.

right thanks jonny i'll go and have another browse of crc the convirtable hub is pretty essential

edit: do the hope pro 2 hubs come as a 20mm axel or as the QR? where would you get the converter from? the da bomb system seems pretty good, and my friend has got the atomlab rims

Buy the pro 2 in 20mm axle.....when you need to go QR pop the caps off the hub and replace them with http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=10238 and you can now run QR axles lol.

Very nice bike,it looks VERY similar to an Orange P7 well the seatstay yolk is basically the same and the front tube profiles look very similar.

The alex rim does look really thin,it is 1cm narrower than any other heavy duty rim though. The halfords specials on my brothers kona are VERY thin rims and with 2.5" tyres you get a lot of rolling about.

thanks :) it says kinesis on the tube near the front mech it's about 27lbs but could be lighter when i wear these oem fire xc's out and get some real kevlar ones. i have to make sure the tyres are always abouve 40psi or it feels really squishy like there's something loose so i keep them at about 45psi. i think they get harder and softer depending on altitude, or maybe i'm just nuts heh it's a great bike to ride a real trail eater :D and no i'm not getting clipless! :p

just got this bike, from insurance money as my old one was stolen :(, I know its not great but compared to my ancient saracen that couldnt change gears its pretty awesome for me

as a side note I think the pads on the brakes are rubbing against the disc itself making a slight noise, is that normal? if not how would I go about changing it

right, so i'm defo going to have to get some for dirt jumping... what kona has your brother got, and what do you mean by rolling about?
I'll have to wack my platform pedals back on too for dirtjumping as with my spds is may be a bit riskeyyy.

could be the disc isn't flushed or the brake pads is set slightly off. shouldn't be hard to fix either way.

eeep, that sounds mighty complex to me, got any guides I can have a look at, like I said this is the first bike Ive that really works so Im not exactly knowledgeable about such things

my lx brakes (auto adjust i think) rubs slightly sometimes only after i've used them for a long time going downhill though, my guess is the disc expands a bit as it gets hotter? so they rub slightly then they cool down and stop rubbing, maybe it's that?

I doubt it it seems to be happening all the time, its very quiet I would describe it as a whispering noise not a squeek. Im not totally sure it is the disc brakes could be anything as far as I know.

if the bikes quite new and youve not put a lot of miles on it, it could just be a burr on the pad which will wear away with use

I see, tbh I think I'll just put up with it, it doesnt bother me and I doubt its causing any damage to the bike

The auto adjust happens when the pads wear down - they are automatically pushed closer to disc.
Sometimes the caliper position needs tweaking a little. Avid have a great system where you loosen the CPS bolts, press and hold the brake and tighten them back up again. The 3D concave and convex washers adjust perfectly :)

Problem is that generally doesnt work. With mine i had to do the bolts up just enough to hold the caliper in place and then gently tap it over so it was aligned up with my rotor. Perfect drag free brakes :)
