Black Myth: Wukong

Have you played any souls games? How hard it is in comparison?
I've played Bloodborne found it a little too hard for me. Played Elden Ring it wasn't too bad but never completed it. This as said is challenging but not too the point of I want to give up just yet. It's definitely a good game but if your not into fighting games then I wouldn't bother.

I can't decide if this is fun or not.

Bought on the premise it wasn't a souls-like and was being compared to God of War. God of War was an absolute breeze compared to this. Nothing like God of War at all.

I guess my most recent souls-like experiences were Lies of P, Fallen Order on grandmaster, Steelrising. For me this is a whole tier of difficulty above any of them.

I loved the exploration in the earlier chapters, then in the second half of the game I grew to love the combat. Some of the later boss fights were brilliant even though they were very tough. That is hard to get right. There are only a handful of bosses that were "cheap" in their tactics. It is a difficult game though for sure.

I know people say it's not a souls-like, but it does have a lot of characteristics of souls-like. The fact there is no consequence to dying is I think the biggest difference.

Yeah I agree, it feels more like Sekiro where levelling up didn't make you better or stronger, you had to "git gud"

I am in chapter 3, but those perfect dodges feel so satisfying when there is crazy stuff going on the screen. I wish more games looked this good, and makes me excited for the next generation of gaming

I may end up eating my own words (only just started chapter 5), but I found that some time towards the end of chapter 3 and midway through chapter 4, it's started to get quite easy. Like I remember the first dragon you encounter took me a good little session to beat (probably 10+ tries), and the final boss of chapter 2 also took me a good 40-minute session to beat.

But ever since chapter 4, I've rarely had to take more than 2-3 tries to beat anyone. I'm not even trying to min-max at all, but when you start getting some serious gourd/drink upgrades (9 drinks and each drink filling up 3/4 of your health), together with collecting various stat boosts from the mind cores and such and general levelling, plus you've got the wandering spirits and the curios and the other activated thingy and a free-life transformation and the medicines you can take during battle, the boss fights become a lot less threatening with so many tools at your disposal.

So far, I’ve found the Yellow Wind Sage the hardest boss. I was stuck there for a week (about 2-4 hours gaming time). Had to google special builds and went back and did a quest line that gave me items to help defeat him. Got him 2nd or 3rd go after that.

From then on, it’s been surprisingly …. Easy? I mean, I still die on bosses, but none of them feels impossible. I would say I 1-shot about 30% of the bosses. Most I get within 10 tries. Kan-Jin Star I got stuck on for an hour yesterday, but I managed to catch her in this weird loop up against a rock face that she couldn’t get out of, or bugged out on, and she deaded.

The first 10 bosses or so was harder, now it feels a bit more manageable.

Big fan of this game.

I can't get past one of the early bosses (turns in to a snake dude). I think this game is beyond me.

He was a real roadblock for me.

Best advice for me for the second phase was to stay close to him. Best advice for the whole fight was stop being greedy with combos and be satisfied with one or two light hits while charging the heavy attack.

I know man… so satisfying hearing that perfect dodge sound. I have just started chapter 4, I am taking my time to explore all areas, found some interesting stuff along the way.

I absolutely loved this game. Finally completed it a few days ago but I definitely recommend changing the build now and again when getting stuck on some of the bosses. I also had major trouble with Yellow Wind Sage for a while, the quest item makes a huge difference for this boss.

Overall I thought the game was brilliant.

Completed my first run through yesterday. 41 hours in total so definitely had my money's worth. As others have said the storyline can be quite confusing to keep track but on gameplay alone it's a 10/10 for me.

Some noticeably tricky fights but would say Erlang tipped it out of all of them; as djay said above you need to mix up builds dependant on the boss.

Will do a Ng+ run at some point

I keep getting stuck on bosses nobody else seems to hype up. I'm completely stuck on the chapter 5 end boss now. The spikes coming out of the ground just end every run, doesn't matter how good up until then. The moment he does that, it's done.

I've just started New Game+.

I started playing GOWR but have set it aside for now, as I think Wukong has set a very high standard to surpass, both visually and in terms of gameplay.

You can time it when it happens, once you see him preparing to do ground spikes you should be able to run almost to the out of bound space.
