BMW and M Power Owners

Time for a quick question....

Bought my F11 a couple of weeks ago, AUC with nice new Pirelli tyres, drove away and thought nothing of it.

Inspecting them today, they seem to have fitted Pirelli P Zero non-runflat tyres on the back. There are P7 Cinturatos on the front with RUN FLAT clearly marked. No such markings on the P Zero and as far as I can tell they don't make a 245/45 R18 RFT. Am I correct in thinking they should not have done this? Not sure if worth bothering the dealer about.

They won't have fitted them. The owner will. None run flats can be used and given that the rears will wear significantly more quickly than fronts it's not unusual to find that they've had none run flats fitted. The intent would normally be to change the fronts when they next need replacement.

I’m off to Belgium in the car early next month, is it true you don’t need to do anything with the lights to drive on the continent as the beam is flat? It looks flat in the dark but I don’t know if it’s confirmation bias convincing myself I don’t need to do anything.

Depending on your model year. Look in iDrive under Lights

Im suprised the dealers stuck mis-matching tyres on. In some cases it can produce handling problems, especially if its the kind of car you might throw around a lot (not sure on your engine).
When one set wears I would bung matching tyres on all round, either run flats or normal. I went from 4 runflats to 4 normal and the ride quality is massively improved.

I was in Towcester over the weekend, had a mooch around the town centre, after a while I emerged from a side street and was very surprised to see an identical e38 to mine, only to then realise it was mine :o :D

Anybody else care to admit doing this or is old age just setting in? :p

Dealer didn't pay that much attention to detail I have to say, missed a crack in the wing mirror that they had to replace after I got there to pick it up! Will give them a ring and see what they say, spoke to BMW CS and they said mismatching tyres is a definite no-no so hopefully will be able to either get 2 standard tyres or 2 RFTs out of them...

I did something similar when I was a young pup. I've actually just posted about it elsewhere on here. I had a blue punto n812jou. Walking out of college one day and a blue punto goes past...n813jou. I started to run towards it as it was stuck at some traffic lights only to see mine still in the car park.

Got to love the BMW 20d engine - A stunning blend of power and economy; just a shame diesel is so noisey :/

I’ve managed an overall average of 80mpg in my partners Focus diesel at an average speed of ~50mph during a short motorway cruise, it’s meaningless though because onceback to its usual driving pattern which is predominantly a road and town driving, it is back in the mid 50’s as it always is.

Equally I can get upto low 40’s from my 735i if I reset the obc and drive it sedately at around 50mph and feather the throttle over a relatively short distance...

Otherwise it’s high teens around town and around 24mpg otherwise overall.

I got 16mpg from a 13.6litre Scania straight six the other week pulling 11 tons on the trailer, I’d say it makes your BMW quite inefficient by direct comparison :p

That was from a cold start, through traffic and lights, onto a traffic managed motorway, off the slip road, through the outskirts of town and parked up. Had I been feathering on a longer motorway trip it could manage mid 80's.
