Is an LCI E60 a good buy these days? Which engine is the one to go for? I think the N52 is pre-LCI only isn't it?

I can't imagine a scenario in which these are worth bothering with. They are not throwaway money yet but are old and a nuisance.

All facelift cars are N53.

Well the 630i is an option but cramped rear seats are a pain. The E39 is just a bit too old now and good ones aren't even that cheap.

Equivalent Mercs of that age are equally as rusty and annoying...

Used prices are all over the shop at the moment. No idea what the deal is. It seems anything with a petrol engine is silly money.
Take my XJ for example. A 2010 in Portfolio spec with 36k miles and a 5.0 V8 petrol engine. Cheapest in the UK at the moment is £19,950 but that's with 85k miles. Now look at prices for an equivalent 3.0 V6 diesel version: About £13k ish for the cheapest with <100k miles.

Same deal with BMWs:
£13k for a 730dSE on 45k miles
£18k for a 750iSE on 50k miles

Retail price on a 2012 730d with 50k is £15500. It was £59k new.
Retail price on a 2012 750i with 50k is £19000 - however it was a whopping £72k new!

Shock as top of the range model which cost loads more new is worth more used? Ignoring the V12 you've taken the bottom of the range entry 7 and pointed out it costs less than the top of the range 450bhp model!?

A more relevant comparison...

Retail price on a 2012 740d with 50k is £16900.
Retail price on a 2012 740i with 50k is £16800...

That’s like saying it’s odd that an Aston V12V costs more than the same age V8V.

Afternoon, I'm wading the waters for a new car over here in California, I'd like to get a similar setup to my last car which I've still got in the UK.

However, it seems that all new touring editions of the 3 series come with 4 pot engines? Are they any good at all? I'd much rather have 6 pot automatic.

Agreed, but in the past when cars get to the age we're talking about, the price difference was marginal at best with the diesels holding up a little better than the petrols because of the fuel economy.
Back in 2011 I bought a 2006 750i for the same money that I paid for a 2006 730d 6 months previously. Both approved-used BMWs.

Petrol used cars have had a decent rise in value ... annoying when like me you are looking to buy a petrol car soon

What I thought was an offside blowout yesterday on a speed-bump despite having slowed appropriately, wasn't. Transpires that having had a fresh pair of PS4S's fitted it's actually a snapped spring which explains the difficulty refitting the wheel.

I have the extended Mondial warranty, so have phoned it in to Emergency Service to be recovered shortly. Just curious as to peoples experiences when claiming for shocks/springs? It's not listed as an excluded component: https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Comprehensive#/_ComprehensiveDetails

Would it be unrealistic to expect at least one of the two tyres to be covered, even though tyres exclusively are excluded? (Near end of life anyway but they aren't to know that).

(2010 plate, 75k, 335i).

So are you saying that the snapped spring caused the tyre to blow out? How would it do this?

If you can get BMW to pay for it, I wouldn't mentioned the words "speed bump" at all. I have a feeling that the best you can expect is for them to cover the spring.

Has anyone got a 2 series coupe? With seats down is there a chance to fit a 27.5" MTB? Got an offer to get an M240i coupe for a few months and seriously thinking about it but tbh only works if I can still fit the MTB.

I would have thought it would fit without any problem, you would have to take the front wheel off, turn the handlebars 90 degs and it should go in no problem. My brother used to fit his road bike in the back of his 1 series coupe with the back seats down

Any thoughts on a private sale value of an F11, 13 Plate with 75K. Main spec is 520d, Pro Nav, Xenons, 18 Inch Wheels and HUD. I would class condition as good to very good. I get a price from Evans of £10.5k so am guessing about £11.5k private. Does this sound about right?
