BMW and M Power Owners

Arm + leg. I had my last one in for some warranty work and asked them if they could do the software update whilst it was in. £300.00. I did it myself for nothing. Took 30 mins.

When you say you did it yourself did you actually upgrade the firmware or just do the little media firmware update from the BMW website?

To support their product? If it has bug fixes to fix issues on their products it seems pretty reasonable to expect it for free.

Tesla manage it. Car manufacturers need to move with the times.

It was the full firmware update. Granted I got the kit and software from my local friendly indy but they didn't charge me a penny.

The purpose of the updates are to fix bugs like this guy has. That's a fault with the BMW product. They shouldn't be charging to fix those problems. It's not like a part that breaks, it's a part that was broken from day 1 because the code wasn't written correctly.

Edit: as minstadave says above I believe tesla do it as a matter of course!

If you have an issue and the car is under warranty they will of course update the firmware for free.

His 'bug' is nothing to do with the firmware version though so it wouldn't help.

I just want to say how lovely it is to be back in a BMW again. Everything works exactly in the way I would expect it to with no weirdness or annoyances. I should never have left.

It's the little things that make a difference. Things like:

The cruise control lever is a joy to use
The buttons are all soft touch rather than clicky
The auto wipers work and set themselves at a sensible speed
The gearbox doesn't get confused
The HVAC controls make sense

Walked back to my car last night after an evening at the cinema, and just, sat there’s in the car park, it looked, beautiful. Such a stunning car, I love it! :D

However I was with a petrol-head mate and Sport+/exhaust weren’t playing last night which was disappointing. Hardly any pops burbles nor cracks on the journey home :(

Pops and burbles from a 4 door saloon are a bit naff anyway :p

This is the issue with Jag really, it's hard to convey it in words and make it sound like anything more than being picky but nothing in them ever seems to... I dunno, flow?

Yeah, it's really hard to explain. The XJ is a fantastic car and is a class above the 6-Series, not to mention an 8 year newer design, but some parts of it really don't feel like they are.

Knowing the E64 fairly well (a good friend of mine has had a 650i Cab for years - very nice cars but i wouldn't say that any of those features are noteworthy on them!) - Just how bad are these XJs :p

The XJ is not bad at all, it just has some idiosyncrasies that take the shine off the ownership experience.

I think it must be what you get used to, because after having two Jags the BMW bugged the **** out of me which was why I got rid relatively quickly.

I was the other way round, after having two Jags (XF), going back to BMW was absolutely brilliant. I loved the look of the Jag, but everything else I couldn't wait to see the back of it. And wouldn't ever go back, especially now they are basically just a glorified Kia (unless I decided to get an F-Type, then I'd make an exception :p)

Very specific question here but someone may know. Is it possible to plug in 2 usb devices at once using a USB hub, and have them both visible to select as a media source via iDrive?

Main reason is I have my music on a USB stick, wife has hers on another so have to keep swapping them. To be able to select via iDrive would be great. I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work with a USB hub I have, it just recognises whichever USB stick it sees first and ignores the other one. I’ve seen comments online saying this works, but never any specific details or a screenshot to back it up.

Can’t you copy one of the sticks to the hard drive, assuming you have one?

You could also try experimenting with putting the music in different folders on the same stick?

Me I just took the easy option and we have separate cars :D

Why not just put both on one stick?
