BMW and M Power Owners

I collected a M140i at the weekend.

It was a 2017 model that I paid probably well over the odds for given the cost of everything being high right now but it was in the colour and spec (Pro Nav, Harman Kardon, etc) I wanted, with the M Performance Exhaust, full BMW service carried out every year like clockwork, and in immaculate condition; well looked after by previous owners. I've been after an M140i for a while and kept an eye on second hand car prices and they have been a bit silly but that was the same for any other performance hot hatch I was looking at.

Mind you, that was all forgotten about on the drive home :D

Quite a bit of step up from a Fiesta ST!

I probably should have waited for the second hand car market to calm down but we needed the extra doors and more boot space. The ST was just an interim purchase to get rid of a Pug 308 GTi that was throwing up ridiculous repair bills for a 3 year old car; it just wasn't reliable. The ST gave me trouble free motoring a bit of profit from the 308 sale. I thought I could make the 3 doors and compact size work and as it was only me primarily using it and I could 90% of the time. The moment we went out as a family (wife plus a teenage daughter, occasionally the dog as well) then things would get a bit tight. We also have a couple of UK breaks and holidays planned. I also got fed up of the moans of having to climb through to the rear seats.
Pictures! What colour is it?

Those who have used BMW assistance and ended up with a hire car, how have you found the overall experience?

My car was recovered to the dealers yesterday morning and BMW assistance/Enterprise have spent the best part of 24 hours trying to source something with little success. Appreciate yesterday was a Sunday, but now being told it may be Tuesday before they can get me anything, as they can only supply BMW or Mini.

Are these typical timeframes from experience? Currently without a car and at this rate the dealers will have it fixed before a hire car is sorted.

I've used it 3-4 times, the first time it was utterly fantastic (Enterprise had a 5 series delivered to the roadside where my car was before the recovery truck even turned up, this was after someone crashed into me).
other times, it has been absolutely horrendous, and taken them hours and once overnight to get me a replacement car. Utterly woeful.

I have used the system recently, well, sort of. It's a longer term issue due to the wait time for parts, and as my car is a 7 Series, they bypassed Enterprise and used a luxury car hire specialist - who have been excellent. My local BMW dealer are very good and also put some pressure on BMW UK.

The hire car was dropped off within 24 hours (an X5 45e), but I fear with Enterprise it'll be a less impressive service. I would be pretty firm with them and say you urgently need a car so they better get a move on.

Thanks both for sharing. BMW assistance themselves have been fantastic, pleasant to deal with, arranged recovery promptly and have updated well. But the handover to Enterprise and the service from them, based on this experience, isn't great. Currently working through escalating it, not even fussed what they send me at this point.

Estoril Blue. It also has the Maxton front splitter, side skirts, rear valance and spolier cap. Thought it would look a bit tacky but it actually looks quite nice in my opinion and not too garish:

Welcome to the M140i club! Still absolutely loving mine 6 months since I got it, starting to be able to enjoy it more recently now the weather is a bit milder. Winter on the pilot super sports isnt great!

Must say I have been driving it very gingerly due to sheer power and torque increase compared to what I've been driving before.

Think I actually enjoy having a nice, refined engine matted to a nice auto box and driving sedately than putting my foot down. Nice having those horsies under the bonnet if needed though. Think I'm getting old :o

I managed 45+mpg out of mine on a 100 mile run doing 60-70 ish, very impressive engine.

I was looking at the MPG on my drive home (place I bought M140i is on a 40 mile route I travel every couple of weeks to visit my mum) and it was basically giving me comparable economy to the Fiesta ST! Will need to review that over a longer term though.

Modern turbocharged engines are fantastic for MPG on a steady run, figures you’d never get on a comparable power NA engine. I get a regular 46MPG on long runs with my 428i. Average is lower obviously, usually just under 30 at the moment.

The B58 in the X3 was a tough act to follow but the X5 version felt a bit under powered in comparison. The V8 N63 feels and sounds like the next step up, as a bonus I have a 5 year service plan on it too.

Snap on the B58 -> N63 step!

Sold my 440i MPPSK GC to cazoo, and have replaced it with an MY 2021 m550i, which is an LCI G30.

And of course obligatory exhaust videos:

4.4l twin turbo v8, 530bhp, 0-60 c. 3.5s.

Aventurin II individual paint (very interesting paint, it can be a VERY dark maroon in dull lighting but in direct sunlight it's a fantastically vibrant red)
Comfort pack with ivory nappa comfort seats
Cerium grey grills/mirrors (NOT black like most of them have, which was a hard no!)
Tech plus pack so HUD, driving assistant professional (radar cruise, self-steering, auto lane changing etc - so far it seems far better than autopilot on my wife's Model Y performance, especially in slower moving traffic!), surround cameras, HK audio etc
adaptive LED headlights with beam splitting etc.

70 plate, 7.5k miles

I did look an m5 competition instead, but as a 6'4 ~220lb broad shouldered chap, I did not get on at all with the excessive wings on the "buckets". Didn't even bother taking it out as i was uncomfortable before i'd even moved!

Anyway, 530bhp is more than enough for a practical car....

That's really nice! And an interesting colour too. I'm definitely done with monochrome cars now! My next one will be something more interesting than black/silver/grey!
