BMW and M Power Owners

Ps, oil filter gasket went out from work this afternoon so should be with you early next week

Hey bud, still no sign of it here but will keep you posted :)

I have already ordered a full interioir led kit and number plate lights for my 2004 e46 coupé but not sure on the headlights. Anyone able to recommend me the correct bulbs to replace my sidelight and headlight bulbs with bright white led ones? It has angel eyes.

E46 doesn't have angel eyes as standard, sounds like an aftermarket kit. By replacement sidelights are you after new angel eyes or the stock sidelight?

Oh right I wanted to make the rings whiter as they are alittle yellow and the main and dripped a crisp white. Freshen the front end up.

Here is a pic of them.

I think they are built into the headlight and not a added ring.

I think im going to remove one tomorrow and see what is actually fitted.

Went and had a look at the new 4 series today. Hadn't intended too but my Mrs is after a small SUV and the BMW dealer is next door to the ford so we walked over and had a poke round the X1. Sat outside thou was their demo 420d M Sport, its in mineral grey with black leather and the 19" twin 5 spoke wheels and looks great. While chatting tot he sales man about the X1 we get onto the 4 and transpires that they have a 435d Xdrive M Sport on the way and it should be there before Christmas so test drive booked :D That 435d is a bit of a monster , 0-62 4.7s 313BHP and 465lbft.

Interior was nice, had plenty of space for wife and kids, liked the colour so seriously tempted :D can't wait to drive it

Mineral grey and the red leather looks amazing! One of the guys at work has a M135i with that combo and I've already asked him if I can buy it when he's bored of it

Try and steer her away from an X1, it's the oldest car in the range now and is based on the old 1 Series, ie decade old underpinnings. Had one last year as a loaner, very poor. If it has to be small I would look outside the BMW range until the X1 is replaced, assuming you are after a new one that is.

By equivalent petrol engine you mean 328i right?

Yea.
Does he need/want the size? A 135i is similar money ( bit cheaper on 6k miles) and though I'd expect the 330d to be a great car the petrol 1 would be a bit more suited to short journeys and low miles? Hellofa ugly but hey ho

He's set on the 3 series I'm afraid.

Don't worry she didn't particularly like it...the 4 series on the other hand...

On the way down the motorway yesterday my speedo and vacuum gauge stopped working along with the DSC light, ABS light and red handbrake light which was great fun.

After a bit of google fu I read that swapping the 2 rear speed sensors over is a good way of finding out whether 1 of the sensors has failed as apparently the rear left is speedo and the rear right is cruise control. So my friend and I proceeded to jack the car up and swap them over. Got the wheels back on, ready to lift it slightly to remove the axel stands when the scissor jack on one side slipped... causing the car to lurch and slip down to the side. Luckily, the other axel stand slipped off and missed my exhaust by a slight margin.... a bit of a **** up really :P
However, after that I took the car out for a drive and the lights had all gone out, speedo was working and, much to my surprise, the cruise control was working to.

So it would seem that a connection had come loose. Nevertheless, one of them did look quite perished so I shall still replace the sensors.

Next up: full service and to fix my rear right window mechanism!

New M4 seems to good to be true! 100kg lighter than E46 M3 and nearly 100 more horsepower.

Looks to be a real monster of a car, impressed how light they've got them, should be superb on both track and road.

E36 danger jack seems hewn from granite compared to the VW item. I used the E36 jack once, before the driveway was paved and i couldnt get a normal just under. I dont remmeber seeing it since, perhaps it did crumble?

They are so ****. Had 4 of them collapse on me in my relatively short time messing with these cars. Once had one collapse so put another one in to try and lift it enough to get a trolley under. That one also collapsed. Total ball ache taking the bumper off a car beached on the floor and trying to lift it from the chassis leg with trolley jack and precarious blocks of wood. Don't get me wrong, first time it happened it was hilarious though :p

I dropped my a3 onto one of its discs when I had it due to the vag jack just collapsing. About then I figured out trolley jacks and axle stands were a very good idea!

A bit of advice please: I really like the shape of the E46 and I want an auto. I'm seeing some good examples for around 5k (330/325 / 04-05 / 70-80k miles).

Are there any major maintenance tasks which will need doing around that age / mileage mark and when I call the owners are there any specific [to the E46] questions I ought be asking?

Picked up my new car last week.

'63 F30 330D Luxury as I am getting too old for MSport and prefer to float anonymously over our glorious roads these days - Yes it has also got the rubbish lights which is frustrating on a near £40K car and no it has not got a red interior :p

The 3 litre engine matched with the 8 speed sports auto really is sublime and putting into sport mode really does create a bit of a monster. Power of 258 HP and 0-60 at around 5 and a half seconds whilst sounding half decent for a diesel is enough to keep me amused - Combine this with the professional media and idrive system and it is a heck of an overall package for day to day. Perfect size as well now the F30 imo and the main reason I chose this over the F10.

Interior quality is much improved over an E92 I had a few years back thankfully. Still some cost cutting going on with some of the plastics which is a sign of the times unfortunately but feels very well put together with no squeaks or rattles to report which is hugely important to me!

Hello chaps,

I currently have a 54 plate e46 318 coupe. I love the car, I really do, and do not think it will be going anywhere for some time. I was however wondering, when did a lot of the more eco mode type BMW's begin to show themselves? I know you have eco-mode and such on a few, but the start-stop etc, what models did they first begin? I know part of the BMW world is not to be massively economical, but I am starting to look at life in the way of not everything needs to be the very best performing at all times, and the option for a nice motor, but with the ability to be affordable still is appealing. The 318 is not too bad for fuel really, but I was just interested.

Cheers for any help :)

Start-Stop was introduced on 4 cylinder models from the introduction of EfficientDynamics technologies for the 2008 model year. It was for a long time only available on 4 cylinder manual models, but a few years ago became available on larger engines and with automatics.

Eco Pro Mode etc was introduced for the 2012 model year.

It seems to be mostly about tax brackets and brochure CO2 figures than actual real world effect, mind. They are very much not the difference between 'affordable' and 'not affordable'!
