BMW and M Power Owners

I didn't think they would make a huge difference, I don't cover a huge amount of miles anyway.

Oh well, perhaps just stick with the dream of the e46 M3 :D Sod the efficiency.

Fantastic advert but the price is very optimistic. It's an undesireable car to start with (Manual Petrol) so pricing it at least a thousand quid over book is not going to help.

2 years ago I got 7k for a 2007 LCI 525i SE manual of the same spec but without Nav. It also took MONTHS.

The gasket turned up yesterday morning, will hopefully get round to fitting soon, thanks again buddy :)

Oh awesome, apologies for the delay in getting it to you, I spotted it by chance when I went to the mail room at work on Tuesday - seems someone didn't know what service to send it so left it on the side for a week or two

No probs, appreciate the favor :)

Insurance renewal came through today at £867, quite happy with that, but now to try and get it cheaper :p

FAO: Simon

One for Simon. :)

I see Castrol have two 10-60 oils for the S54 engine from E46 M3, an FST and TWS, they both seem to have same specification and both recommended for BMW M Sport cars.

So are the FST and TWS the same?

EDGE 10W-60 with FST and EDGE professional TWS 10W-60 are both fine

TWS is so well known from the Castrol motorsport TWS that it was kept in the label, it does meant much other than ' Ten W Sixty'.

Look on the CastrolEdge website and some chumps will tell you what FST is :p

Going to service my 318ci 2004 as its long over due from previous owner. Not sure the coils and boots have ever been done and its done 96k now so are they worth doing as im doing the plugs?

Not unless there's anything actually wrong with them imo, what do you mean by boots though? The e46 coils have a funny wedge connection to the ht leads

Which service is it due? The inspection 2 is the one where the plugs get done but coils are not a service item.

Why buy a car that's been neglected anyway, not as if it's not easy to find a better one?

Not sure which service is due there is a service receipt from mid 2011 from some random garage that had oil and filter change (fuel filter, air, pollen and oil) but nothing since then.

Im based in Germany so selection of English cars is terrible over here. I only plan to keep it for a year as its boring me power wise already.

I want to get it running sweet while I have it though. The chain tensioner is the original by the looks of it so replacing that also. Im guessing its at the inspection 2 stage. Would I be looking at a massive bill if I had it done by bmw? I would get it vat free.

Car will be sold in Germany so doubt it will make much difference to resale price getting it done by bmw rather than doing the oils and filters myself.

Thought I had a sticky caliper as I smelt something burning and the front drivers side wheel was really hot.

Apparently just needed new brake pads and discs.

This still doesn't answer why you bought a neglected example.

Well It was this one or nothing basically. We needed a car and this fitted the bill. German cars seem to hold there money a lot more and as we didnt have a car being able to travel around Germany to view them along with not speaking any German wouldn't have been easy. I wanted a right hand drive car as it feels more comfortable to change gear as thats what im used to (I drive left hand drive manuals regularly).

Also the wife does not know how to drive a manual being a yank so teaching her in this before she gets a new English tax free car for herself.

Anyway I don't see why I bought it matters really as its with me for the next 12 months, I would just like some advice from experienced owners on giving it some TLC.
