BMW and M Power Owners

Well pretty much decided that I will sell my 09 335i M Convertible in the spring, I've owned it since Mar-11 so time for a change!

No idea what to replace it with yet though, did hanker after at 535D for a while but not so sure now.

Even BMW seem to want to forget it - look at the current 5 Series, it looks like a bang up to date version of the E39 not the E60..

I don't understand this, I agree in the difference between post and pre lci however my view is that the e60 is completely different to the e39, it's another era of manufacturing however I can't see how the e39 can be compared to the F10. The F10 is closer to the e60.

The F10 in my view doesn't return the 5 series to the high quality over engineering of the e39, it's a better e60 for a throw away culture.

not a fan boy post I just don't understand the hate for the e60 when it's supposed to be more balanced than the f10 which is one of the appeals of bmws.

Ok the single din head unit, facia and gubbins are going on ebay sometime this month.

The bluetooth streaming, hands free, usb input etc are all very good and it sounds good too - but it's just horrible looking.

I refuse to pay Dynavin money when I don't even care about nav and having read up on the Eonon efforts it'd have to be very cheap for me to even consider one.

Does anyone have experience of the Grom adapters? I know the sound quality will be oem crap but in terms of functionality do they work well? From what I can find online they seem to do what it says on the tin

Does anyone know if the anti corrosion warranty is still valid if you get paint repairs done on your car that aren't by a BMW paint shop?

Passed its MOT today....... but was advised on the shock like the BMW garage said, the mechanic who did the test said it was only one side that had a slight leak not both leaking badly like bmw said, I know pairs are advised but has anyone ever just had one replaced? I've just watched a guide to replacing them and tbh doesn't look that hard, certainly no harder than replacing discs and pads..... got me thinking now, obviously I don't have all the gear especially the spring compressors

Isn't your car relatively new or am I getting mixed up?

Anyway its not difficult to change shocks/ springs but you will ideally want an impact gun if doing it yourself and decent spring compressors. Not just dodgy cheap numbers.

I'd personally do both shocks. You could get away with one but you'll notice an imlrovement with 2 new ones if one is already leaking

mines an 06 330d, id like to do both but the price I was quoted was over £600 so if only one is really needed its quite a difference, what bugs me is I've just checked realoem got the part numbers and found the parts for under £60 each... I mentioned this earlier in the thread but I have a comprehensive warranty from bmw but Im thinking its a wear and tear part and wont be covered but im going to phone to confirm first.

Been having a look at 125 coupes (or maybe a 130 but I dunno if I could bring myself to own the hatch) since the thread last night, might go and see a couple as a change to one of our cars in the spring - most look pretty spartan in spec though.

What options need to be chosen to get idrive in a 1, nav or is there an alternative without it that also gives the cleaner console ( I know early idrive isn't great but I think the console looks significantly better with the screen etc)? I assume they also had the M sport suspension delete available?

iDrive only comes when Navigation is specced. The prefacelift models dont have a better looking dash with iDrive as it replaces the popup cubby holder and has a popup screen. The facelift ones have a proper screen.

I see what you mean now, probably still prefer the popup screen to a cubby hole - it's not brilliant but facelift money on a 1 series with a reasonable engine would break my heart.

It's a shame because I'm willing to travel the 360 mile round trip to buy this. He was having none of it, saying "he would lose on it if he sold it for £4k". I don't think he would, he probably gave some poor sod £2k for it!

I rang up the dealer selling this car and found out it needs tyres and a suspension refresh. Wouldn't take my offer of £4,000;

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...d/maximum-mileage/up_to_70000_miles?logcode=p

Thoughts? My argument is that it's a pre-facelift and requires about a grands worth of work. Is it worth the £5k?

It's a 10 year old E46, they all need a suspension refresh. Thats hardly a 'fault', its a '10 year old car'.

It's a shame because I'm willing to travel the 360 mile round trip to buy this.

IMHO with 10+ year old BMW's at independant dealers 360 miles is simply too big a trip to make. The chances of you getting to a car and finding it as you expected is somewhat scant. You need to be giving them a properly good going over before making any offers or decisions.

It works with younger cars but IMHO not stuff like this.
