BMW and M Power Owners

It isn't crazy, its just really really dumb and someone with very little intelligence in an area spending a lot of money without consulting people who have a lot of experience and knowledge before forking out that kind of money.

I am sure the salesman he consulted assured him and made him feel like he was making an excellent decision.

To be fair at least it looks nice :D

Also the lad is 23, give it a rest. We all learn from our mistakes.

EDIT - I know the decision is painful but suggesting the guy has 'very little intelligence' is so typical of this forum.

We must crush poor decisions so thoroughly so that future decisions are the better for it, it is our duty.

I should have made it clearer, I'd envy a new 335i or M3. :p

That's not to say I don't love my 320d. Couldn't bring myself to take a picture of the kerbed wheels though. :( CRY.

I'll be losing some sleep over this post tonight, though... oh wait.

Call me stubborn, but I'm still happy I bought new. :)

How does someone so incompetent get into a position to spend that much money on a car.

That's a bit harsh. It's his money and he has to live with it at the end of the day. Calling into account his intelligence is going too far. Now if he had gotten himself into a poor finance deal and was living beyond his means I could perhaps see your point.

Some people will spend their money differently to others. That's life, get over it.

Hi guys,

Picked up my first BMW on the weekend, an e39 530i Sport Auto.
It has full BMW history, pretty much every receipt for everything. I added them all up and it came to just over £9900! I am the third owner and it ticked over 120k miles on the drive home. The last service was an inspection II so running costs should be more reasonable for the near future.

I've already done about 500 miles in it and am very pleased with it. Taking it steady as have never had a RWD car, an Auto or anything over about 140bhp before.

It was enthusiast owned (guy had 4 BMWs, all sorts) so generally everything works and it's in very good condition. I've picked up on a couple of little issues I want to sort. The steering wheel makes a tick noise once per turn, I am thinking the clock spring/slip ring. Although there is a receipt for replacement of this part at around 80-90k. I know a popular upgrade is to fit a more modern steering wheel so I want to find out the cost of that, especially if I am replacing the clock spring anyway.

Also I want to replace one of the bumper inserts as it is scuffed slightly.

I think the M badged door strips look better than my plain black, anybody know the cost of these?

It has an immaculate Alcantara interior, unsure if I should keep an eye out for a mint leather interior to replace.

I'll add some pictures once the weather allows me to give it a clean.

Cheers.

EDIT - Just removed the steering wheel and cowling, it's the indicator stalk which is clicking around not the clock spring. A new one is about £90 from the local dealer and a used one seems to be £10-£20 from eBay.

I had a brand new F30 320d for a courtesy car the other day.

It wasn't bad at all, it accelerated nicely, it was comfortable, looked ok (from the back and sides - but i guess this is just because it looks almost identical to an LCI E90 from these angles), but looked a bit pap from the front (was an SE).

It did roll quite a bit more than my E92 and the interior most certainly is not better than the E92. It is leagues away from the F10, and very much reminded me of the MK5 Golf interior -well put together, but there were some questionable plastics in places.

The engine. After hearing from all sorts of people that modern diesel engines are so refined these days, i got my chance to see if a 2012, 500 mile diesel engine from one of the best car manufacturers in the world could be classed as "refined". It couldn't.

As someone who isn't used to diesel engines, i was shocked by how rough and rattly it was when it started. This was to the detriment of the Auto Start/Stop feature (which caught me out the first time it happened!) as when i was ready to go, the engine took a fraction of a second longer to roughly rattle into life than a petrol engine would have. The gearstick shook like a terriers tail (Get in! My first Clarksonism!) when the engine was started, it dag dag dag'd like i thought it would and, contrary to what some people say, i was still VERY much aware that it was a diesel, even at 40mph.

Overall, a bit disappointed with the so called "modern diesel refinement". However, what i wasn't disappointing with was the 52mpg i got out of it with no effort whatsoever. The 320d is a perfect car for someone who really doesn't care about cars. It is comfortable, well built, quick enough and handles well. However, for someone who does like cars (like me), a 320d just simply does not cut the mustard. It is boring, bland and the engine not as refined as i thought it would be. Would very much like to try a 6pot diesel though!

You only envy new 335is? Just lol. It's that attitude that got you into a base model diesel not the model you really wanted.

I don't agree that its fair to insult your intelligence but your views are a shame, you are missing out.

There is nothing special about a new car over a 6 month old approved used car but there is very much something special about a 335i over a 320d.
