BMW and M Power Owners

Thanks Fox.

On a 2007 E92, is it a false economy to spend less on a higher mileage example whilst spending slightly more on a comprehensive warranty? Or should my buying strategy be the opposite for a modern day BMW?

As long as its under 60k when you start the warranty you can keep the lower rate if you chose a monthly policy. The warranty is the only reason to worry about mileage, my 25k mile car had more rattles than a branch of mothercare so frankly its hard to imagine how much worse a higher mileage car could get :p

Oh I never knew about the monthly policy thing!

In that case, as I plan to keep the car for a good 4-5 years, I guess it would make financial sense to buy a sub 60k example and to secure the lower monthly rate for the duration of my ownership (<100k).

With the warranty in place other than the comedy cost of tyres especially if you get the 19's (I always laugh about the idea of cheaping out with an eco 2 litre diesel on the Coupe only to then spec it with 19's at £1200 a set of tyres) the rest of the running costs are astonishingly reasonable for a car of this type.

Thanks Fox.

Not sure about the 19's - with the problems of cracking alloys. That being said, I've read that quite a lot of people have got BMW to payout out of goodwill, and the 19's do fill the arches nicely.

More the whole 'I can build a 200mph RX7' only for it to end in a locked thread with no 200mph RX7 and a with a hugely opposite story from a garage owner at the end

So i get ripped off, loose thousands of pounds and end up with nothing and that means anything i do with future cars is brought into ridicule.

Surely you seeing me do all my work myself again means i have learnt my lesson very harshly.

Anyway i wont clutter this thread about that as i see it as old news now.

One tip for anyone with an E39 would be to fit either an e60 545i gearstick or a z3m gearstick, i fitted the z3m last night and it made a dramatic difference, the new plastic bearing took out all the slack out of the linkage and different pivot point means its a much shorter shfit.

Buy all the parts from BMW and it costs about £50

Not at all, it's nicely priced and an excellent colour combination, too. The market wants Nav and M Sport, hence its price. If you dont want either of those things is a very cheap way into an E92 330i.

The fuel consumption and CO2 emission figures are way out though - both of those cars have the older N52 engine which is about 15-20% less economical.

My last few tanks of fuel in my car were

37.96 (238miles)
38.67 (49miles)
40.77 (241miles)
38.53 (248miles)
40.74 (275miles)
36.72 (253 miles)

I can live with low 30's MPG, like I said, most of my driving are mid (20miles) to long (100+ miles) trips. Town driving are infrequent and if i do, they are short in both duration and distance.

Insurance wise, its more expensive than my car (no surprise there), about another £500 actually, roughly about same as what rg-tom pays for his 335D.

Hmmmm, wish it had 18" alloys though.

Just for kicks, I ran a quote for this 335i

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif.../postcode/hr11hb/radius/1500/page/1?logcode=p

Insurance cost the same.

Turbotoaster, out of interest, what's the reason for the massive diameter increase over standard of those tyres? All I can see is they're heavier, greater rotational inertia, fitment problems and you've probably raised the body back up to somewhere near standard ride height despite your lowering! What's the upside?

Anyway - before it gets destroyed, can I buy your high-gloss shadowline and your leather centre console? :)

I wanted much sticker tyres, rear stock rears were down to wires and needed to sort something out.

looked at 888s and ao48s but they were nearly £300 each, then came across these for £65 for a pair of new ones, so decided to give them a try, fitted them to the rear and immense grip was amazing, full throttle in first without a thought of wheelspin, since i didnt want to get loads of understeer around corners i got another set for the front.

Me and my mate took it for a spin last night and the lateral grip is amazing, where before i would either get power oversteer or understeer from entering a corner to quickly, i can now turn harder and faster than i ever could before.

And for the price of one half decent road tyre, i get 4 of these, so even if they only last me 3000miles, i think the fun i get from them is worth it.

If i find some more 285 slicks with a lower profile going cheap ill buy them aswell as reducing rotational mass is always a good thing something like 286/645/18 would be ideal, but then these are wet compound cut to inter depth which is a rare old combination, ill have to see what pops up in the future.

This is only an old cheap bit of fun, dont really be wasting all my money on an old saloon car.

Whats a high-gloss shadowline?

Also noticed on the inside of my roof in the centre it looks like i have almost an airvent system, but i dont know actually what it is, is it a speaker?

In terms of ride height, im about 12mm lower at the front and about the stock on the rear.
