BMW and M Power Owners

This just popped up on my facebook -

I've driven one quite a lot recently, feels pretty much exactly the same as the e46 to me in terms of overall power and not a massive amount less space either. Feels a bit more point and go tha. The e46 but tbh i suspect most of that is just down to how much newer the cars suspension is.

Can't answer your question on the box but I think a manual suits the little 1 better anyway tbh

Had a feeling the age of the suspension was the biggest difference. A full refresh is extremely tempting, yet also not that cheap....

What are the major pitfalls of running an E46 330d? Looking at one as a cheap car to commute to work in.

99% of the ones you can buy now are:

Covered in rust
Running on shot suspension that needs at the least a full rebush
Otherwise tatty
Modified by idiots
Not far away from a large diesely bill, ie turbo, high pressure injectors, etc.

Basically, don't bother - an E46 330d isn't a cheap car for commuting, it's a pointless waste of time. A nice E46 is worth it as a labour of love, so a 330i or an M3 perhaps, but just as 'a car' I can't see why they are worth the bother anymore. False economy.

Shame really as a great E46 is a lovely car.

Yep I thought this might be the case but was just trying to kid myself; it is a crying shame. For me the E46 as a total package was a better car than the E90/2 with the exception of iDrive, which is awesome.

Whilst I am in this thread: Are there any bad things or disadvantages about the E92 M3 Coupe 4.0? Is DCT in this model the same as my S-Tronic or is it more like SMG (ie manual is better) !?

What is it like for pottering about in D?

Also do you get carried away with the speed? I think if my car had 400hp (and NA too) I would find myself going too fast unintentionally sometimes.

I can't think of many places I've visited that the F10 535i must be less suited for than Hong Kong. Its a tiny place, the roads are always heavily congested, everybody drives like an idiot, taxis cost peanuts and the public transport infrastructure is stellar and ridiculously cheap.

Stunning car though. :p

I know! First new model 7 I saw was in China, there was a row of them all in BMW beige with epic amounts of space left around where as the everyday cars were crammed with a hairs breadth between them all dinged and boshed. I'd hate to be the chauffeur!

I know mine isn't at the 400 mark, but it's relatively powerful. I actually find I'm more conscious of my speed when I've driven more powerful cars.

Just get whatever you prefer? If auto is your thing then the box is decent enough

Edit - that's actually a bit unfair, it's a good, traditional auto box

325i is a bit underpowered, isn't it?
Must be even slower with the slushbox..

Get a 330i if you can find one. Late 2008 brings better iDrive, but I dunno what your budget is.
