BMW and M Power Owners

325i is a bit underpowered, isn't it?
Must be even slower with the slushbox..

Get a 330i if you can find one. Late 2008 brings better iDrive, but I dunno what your budget is.

I'm coming from a 1.6 so still an upgrade for me. I read that it's a nice engine between the 320 and 330, think the 330 pushes me out of my budget that i'd like to stick to. My budget is about 8k if that helps, struggled to find one with navigation/idrive also for that.

Tempted by this one...

If exterior looks are your only concern, then fair enough.

Just remember though, buying a poverty spec car at the bottom of the market will always be that. So when you sell it, it'll again be bottom of the market. Nav is a HUGE selling point, and totally transforms this car, I wouldn't even consider one without it.

Personally, I would save up until the budget allows for a 330i M-Sport with Nav. Anything less would be disappointing, to me at least.

Thats not bad but overpriced. I got a 2002 with 113k miles for 5600 and a proper full history and had just been detailed properly. That with ditch-finders screams to me that whoever the last owner was did not want to spend the correct money maintaining it. However if it does turn out to have a full service history and documented proof that the subframe has been done it could be worth a visit.

I thought it was probably a bit overpriced for the age and mileage. I did wonder if it was maybe the garage rather than the previous owner that stuck the "quality" tyres on it. The fact that the advert just says service history rather than full service history does set alarm bells ringing. I'll maybe nip down next week an have a quick look.

I guess I could push the budget a little more, as I would like the iDrive.

Something like this then? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...ake/bmw/body-type/coupe/radius/1500?logcode=p

I don't need a powerful car, just a nice upgrade from a 1.6 A3!

That one looks better - certainly worth viewing and driving at least. I'd ask the seller to put a years mot on (doubt it will be an issue, if he/she makes it one then walk) and make sure you're completely happy with how it drives.

My hunt for an E39 M5 continues, has anyone heard the difference between the standard audio system and the M Audio upgrade? I believe it was an option in 2001 iirc, but what was the audio system like in the years prior?

You close to the garage Melchy im in Glenrothes so if your not very close I can always pop down and take a look see for you.

Hi thanks for the advice so far.

How would they put a years MOT on if it's not due for some time? Apologies, this is the first time i'll be buying my own car!

Thanks for the offer. I'm pretty close by so it should be easy enough for me to pop into the garage for a look. I'm not particularly looking to buy a car at the moment, but as its close I thought it may be worth a look.

You can get an MOT done any time and it will have a year from that date. You only maintain the MOT expiry date if done within 1 month of it expiring.

As above, its got less than half a year left to run so the seller shouldn't find it an unreasonable request.

An mot is a pretty basic safety check but a fresh one at least gives you some confidence in the basics (I'm assuming you aren't mechanically minded) for what will be a very low cost to the seller. It is very unlikely an owner without concerns over the car would be reluctant to re mot for you

Cars with the M Audio system are sufficiently rare that if you decide you must have it you might as well give up searching. Treat it as a bonus if you get it but don't give it any more thought beyond that.

Very interesting, thanks Fox - I can't find a sales brochure to see what some of the features are but I'd read that the M Audio system came as an optional upgrade - but as you mentioned, I've not yet seen a car mention it being equipped.

I have seen one or two mention DSP, is this a comparable thing or is it just a slight upgrade over the stock system?

Thanks for your help.

Are comprehensive paid monthly warranties transferable to a new owner over 60k mileage? Is a monthly p[aid policy different to an annual paid policy for this?
