BMW and M Power Owners

'Engine Fault! Reduced power' (Full engine power no longer available, possible to continue journey, drive moderately etc) appeared yesterday after a 40 minute motorway journey and 10 minutes of town driving, 2 minutes before I arrived home. I was pulling away from lights at the time.

The message had disappeared this morning. I've been suspicious that the fuel pump has been failing as turnover has become steadily more sluggish with several cranks required the last month or two but never failed to start.

Despite the message having disappeared will this have thrown a permanent code for a garage to read? I don't fancy booking it in for a warranty claim to be told it's fine,

Thanks.

(2010 335i - 41k miles )

Yes it will have done. My advice - go for a hard drive and see if it does it again. When my HPFP failed, the car was perfectly driveable still, but just had no power and the "Engine fault drive modestly" warning - although it depends on what fails within.

Thanks :) Could well be the HPFP, as I'd taken a friend for a quick 'spirited' drive shortly before that journey.

Out of interest, was your warning intermittent or permanent?

(The central locking receiver also needs replacing as it died on particularly hot days the last two months, despite changing batteries in both fobs I was having to use the fob key in the door setting off both the BMW and aftermarket alarm )

I don't get this love everyone has for black grilles? I think they look *ok* on cars that aren't black, but don't really like them on black cars. The same as I don't get why people with black cars want black wheels, blacked out windows, black sprayed badges, black grilles etc etc etc.

Contrast is what makes something interesting to look at. Black is pretty much the worst colour as you can't see any of the lines of the car, so making all of the car black just makes it worse!

Yeah but different people like different things - and that's also what makes it interesting right :)

I had black grills on my 335i. As that was the only chrome part and it looked out of place to me.

The X6, the original front grills I think look terrible and again, out of place. This looks better to me.

Hmm seems quite the chore if it went wrong. I'll think I'll stick to just updating the maps unless the firmware update changes so much?

Na he's exaggerating. Just go to someone with autologic. They are able to select each module that you want updating.

For the iDrive it's 5 minutes work.

It's scaremongering as dealers CBA to hook up the car, follow all the steps etc etc. If you corrupt the install, you just start again.. it's even easier with ISTA now anyway

What exactly does 'spirited' mean?

Pretty much I guess. Spirited is the acceptable face of reckless driving.

Because putting your foot down once in a blue moon but actually not exceeding any speed limits, in an environment that posed harm to only myself and my passenger, is completely reckless and I should be banned from driving and thrown in prison.

Wouldn't concern yourself with it - to a point they're correct...we all do it on a quiet road occasionally, not neccesarily blasting miles over the limit

I didn't say that, it's just one of those terms that I find annoying.

How about a e92 320i coupe?

For example, this.

I have a budget of £7,000. Not bothered about SE or M Sport.

Engine's a bit of a waste of time in that car tbh, it's pulling a relatively heavy car, 4 cylinder and just a bit...meh all round.

Can just about get away with it in the 1 series (even then it's dissapointing), not for anyone who's interested in driving in the 3 for me though.

Im not too bothered about performance to be honest. Reliability and efficiency are more important for me right now. Im 20 so insurance will be an issue as well with the bigger engines anyway.

What does everyone think of this: link

Whats the real world mpg for cruising around 70 on the motorway? Any essential spec I should look out for?

And how does a F10 compare to an F01? Obviously I get that they are different segments, but is a 7 a better car to do a 50 mile motorway return commute in?
