BMW and M Power Owners

So I do believe I will soon be the owner of a 2009 BMW 550i! Its a fully specced edition, in the Carbon Black with 85000 kms on the clock. Importer is currently refreshing the leather on the drivers seat and sorting out a chip in the near side front door, but apart from that its mint. Drives like a demon and handles surprisingly well, thought it was going to be a bit more barge like than the current twin turbo Scooby!

Once the importer has fixed the issues, final inspection followed by balance the remaining price and then its mine!

Lovely 4.8l V8 goodness! Will post pictures when its been bought... Might have to get it detailed to remove any swirl marks etc.

I hate you right now :P

Looking forward to the pics and your thoughts.

Soo, After nearly a week of owning the e92 M3 all I can say is wow what a car, I can see it getting me in lots of trouble if I don't be careful lol.

The previous owner had put cheap £60 tyres on the back so the backend was all over the place when it entered anything remotely wet, After changing all 4 tyres to Mich PSS it totally transformed the car in terms of grip.

I've noticed since changing the tyres that it's pulling to the left, Not a lot but enough. I called bmw and they want £300 for 4 wheel alignment whereas the local bmw/audi/vw specialist wants £80.. I know where I'm going.

On the flip-side I’ve found the E46 M3 has made me drive more responsibly than before in the old car! I’ve found that I am cruising mostly because I simply can and that I don't want to use power all the time, but only when the opportunity to do so arises. I will floor it for an overtake or just to appreciate the exhaust note and drama, throwing in the occasional traffic light launch of course :p

The PSS tyres are brilliant agreed.

I hope it is but IME 99.99% of 'fully specced' cars are not fully specced at all, people tend to have no real idea whats standard and what isn't.

Even BMW themselves as I've discovered, was told the Xenon lights on the M135i were part of the visibility pack when they are standard, and that cruise control is standard, which it isn't!

Yes, this is the direction of BMW now, make of it what you will :p

At least Mercedes don’t need to pump fake sounds through speakers on their turbocharged units… Yet.

Had the Z4 for a few days now, runflats ditched for some normal tyres, and took the opportunity to change the wheels over.

Same size as was there before, but def look like the fill the arches (esp at the rear) better than before.

Car definitely feels way better to drive without runflats on.

OMG, at first impression that is absolutely hilarious and quite ridiculous.

After thinking about it though, it's really quite a cool idea. If such a small inexpensive tweak can significantly add to the auditory sensory experience of those in the car it's quite neat. Cost effective and environmentally friendly compared to getting a beasty engine :D

Can you disable it if you just want to potter along listening to audio books?

I imagine you can considering these guys have uploaded sounds from other cars :p

But on the other part, it might seem like a cool idea but it's only somewhat cool from the cabin, there aren't speakers on the outside to make it sound better to those outside the car and let's face it, the M4 doesn't exactly sound M car meaty given the visual presence it has.

I've seen a few in the flesh now, they look stunning but when they accelerate, the sound is less than stunning.

They are not uploading sounds, there is a configuration within the ECU that determines what engine, from those already there, is played.

Having had the sounds system blow in my M235i and having heard the engine in its unaltered form from within the cabin I can understand why they've done it as basically the sound proofing makes the engine note almost inaudible, regardless of mode. With the effect on its done so seamlessly that you really don't know its happening the vast majority of the time, and from what I recall its turned off when you open the window and can hear it directly from the exhaust.

Ah didn't know it was ECU based, so it's sort of similar to those ciggy lighter socket things that pumps out engine sounds based on the current flowing through that were doing the rounds several years ago?

Edit*
This doesn't mean I'm pro the idea, fake sounds are fake sounds regardless. With regard to sound proofing, what's different about it versus previous generations? The engines are quieter, not the sound proofing being heavier. Turbo charging is the reason. But if Mercedes can do it right without fake sounds then why can't BMW?

Well as far as the VIN number information can provide I couldn't see much else that was missing from cars... maybe fully specced wasn't the right words, but it certainly has a lot of goodies... Far more than the current 1997 Scooby legacy RSB!

Surprisingly (or not?) it had better fuel consumption than the 2l twin turbo too!

I thought it a bit mean of BMW to move the service packs on LCI vehicles down to 50k - it used to be 60k...

A question about this? Will BMW perform a service even if the service indicator says one is not required? Say your last service was at 36000 and you're approaching 50000, I'd want to get the most of the service pack by getting in that last bit of the service pack before it clicked over the 50000 and was then invalid, even if there was 3000 left before service was due and hence not strictly necessary....

Any thoughts on that?
