BMW and M Power Owners

I'm considering a BMW for my next purchase.

What are the face lifted one series petrol engines like? In terms of power, reliability and holding their value?

I've been running an F20 118i M-Sport for 3 years now over 37,000 miles.
During that time my total average MPG is 43 with a couple of steady trips at 62mpg.

Power is 180bhp so quicker than the average Ford Focus; approx 7.5 seconds to 60mph.

Reliability - Pretty much perfect.
Only the last couple of weeks it developed a coolant leak which killed the clutch and gearbox. Both replaced by BMW under warranty

In terms of value.
Bought new for around £23k and they are being advertised on Autotrader now for over £14k.im expecting to get about £12k for a quick sale in September.

Picked the CS up yesterday. I cannot believe how dirty it was. There was an inch think layer of dried mud in the rear arches. No wonder they rust, it's a trap for dirt the way it boxes round. Gave it as good a clean as I could without removing the wheels, I also did all the gaps in the boot lid, bonnet and door shuts. I dechavved it by removing the roof spoiler and have got plenty do to this month including repairing the lumbar support, getting rid of the crap blue interior lights, fake German number plates, getting a four wheel alignment, diff bushes replaced and an oil service. Plenty to do!!

Will post pictures once it's been fully cleaned. It still has depo front indicators on it but I might keep them on there and they aren't that offensive.

Looking at the pictures I'm amazed you went to look - is it a gem hiding underneath what looks like a car the owner cares so little about he couldn't even be bothered to bin all the trash he keeps in it before advertising it?!

What was he like?

He was a nice guy but the car was getting neglected due to his young family and his work. It was just sat outside under a tree doing nothing. The paint work is in excellent condition though after cleaning it up. When I arrived he was in the phone to a dealer who offered him 14500 but he didn't want to take a deposit over the phone. Think the price was reasonable but I wouldn't have paid a penny more.

Thought it was on a PCP, isnt it easier to just hand it back or is the GFV less than £12k?
3 years is up the first week of June and I need the car up to the start of September. So I'm buying it (£12k), will run it for 3 months and then sell it with no loss.

Good move removing the spoiler - you sure you're going to be able to deal with the reduction in downforce?

They're all nice little jobs to do, on your list - they don't cost much, don't take long but make a world of different.

If you wanted to get rid of those depo's - someone will take them off your hands for some ridiculous price i reckon. Have you checked the exhaust clamps? They often need doing. Then just the standard E46 stuff - rust on arches, FCAB, RTAB etc

320bhp Six to 300bhp Four :(

Why?!

not went mad on upgrades just a BCS exhaust and JB4, needed something bigger than a Jazz for the growing grandkids, and the lease deal was too tempting on the estate.

very reluctant to part with the BMW if I'm honest, no finance on it and would love to put a mechanical diff on it, I've only done 16k miles and recently fitted an NBT

My mate just bought an E92 M3 - I was suitably happy for him, until he told me it was 40 grand. WHY!!!!!! 'low miles' *sighs*

jesus...I just got mine per the other thread (37k miles) for less than half.

On another note can somebody explain to me why the folding mirrors aren't auto folding on lock? I've read it was removed from post 07 cars due to motor failure?

I know it's minor but I always liked that on my merc and it was a good way to quickly check i've locked it (I'm always paranoid it isn't)

You can code the function back using a cable and a laptop or smartphone if you have Carly for BMW installed. The latter method is the less hassle way. Or find someone who will do it for you at no/little cost :p
